StaticHiveQuake Soulmark AU Part 1: Lincoln
This is a companion piece to this moodboard, as well as for @agentsofchallengesâs March Madness challenge in the soulmate au bracket.
Lincoln doesnât remember getting his second soulmark, but his mom said it formed on his right ankle when he was four: a perfectly inked wave to mirror the Gemini tattoo above his opposite ankle.
His parents couldâve been worse about it, really. As long as he kept his second mark hidden, they didnât mind that he had two soulmarks, really. It wasnât something they talked about.
Itâs a small issue, really. He just canât ever go barefoot or wear short socks. Itâs a small price to pay, is what his parents say. He believes them.
When he takes Skyeâs hand in Afterlife, he loses control of his power in his shock and drops her a foot or so to the ground. His ankle burns, the right one with the wave, his second mark.
She laughs off the fall, and her eyes are so full of awe that Lincoln canât look away.Â
Later, he shows her his second mark and, eyes on the ground, she shows him hers. He tilts her head up to meet his gaze, smiling as her expression turns from lost to determined. âWeâll find them,â he says, soft and secret between them.
When the time comes, he sides with Skye first. Thereâs no question.
Thereâs a part of him that wants to live a normal life, there always will be, but Skye convinces him he can do just as much good at SHIELD.
Itâs strange, really. Lying in the hallway of the Transia building, face covered in so much blood he can barely see, he doesnât feel the least bit threatened when the creature wearing Wardâs meets his eyes. Itâs entirely too easy to follow Coulsonâs order not to engage.
