CTEC608 Studio IV
First Class
Last Semester’s Studio ended on a really high note so I was really excited about how this studio was going to go. This semester I have Sangeeta and Donna as my studio lecturers. Sangeeta I have had before in previous classes so it will be good to have her again and Donna I have not had her before so it will be great to get to know her teaching style. I and @hooryahasif were the only ones from our previous semester group in this Studio stream so it was good to have someone that we knew.
Transformative Technologies is the name for our Studio Stream and the big keywords we will be focusing on this Semester. The project that we will be working on this semester will aim to introduce you to contemporary problems where transformative technological design could be the solution. Sangeeta and Donna stated that this semester our project should be something that is “designed for a purpose” and should be something that our heart wants us to do. It will give us the extra motivation to achieving our goal.
Sangeeta and Donna showed us a lot of examples of projects that had purposes behind them such as the nail polish drug detector which would detect drugs. The goal was to spread awareness of drugs and the negatives that come with it.
It was our time to brainstorm. Sangeeta and Donna wanted us to brainstorm a few ideas of what our areas of interest were or problems that we could spread awareness of what we really like. Sangeeta really stated that we do something we enjoy it will give us a really good chance to be successful. Next Thursday we have to present to the class what our idea is so far, it's like a mini-presentation.

Sangeeta really liked these ideas especially culture and racism because not many people in the past have done a project on it before and it is also quite a sensitive subject to talk about. The best thing about this subject is that I and Hooryah come from two popular cultures and have experienced racism in the past so its something we are really passionate about and want to educate people about. The main goal (Bring people together but educating people about different cultures.). We thought of making a small room or a house to give the person a real experience but its not a final tool. We thought of other tools such as a website, app and game.
We then converted the ideas that we noted on our brainstorm and made them into sentences to give us a better understanding of what we are wanting to do. Our goal for the next few days is to do some research and expand our knowledge on the topic.
