You made a blog for your character, but don't know how to interact?

Welcome again, traveler! You've made your sideblog. You've built your character. And now you're standing at the edge of the city, wondering:

"Okay but like… how do I ACTUALLY roleplay with people???"

Let me help you with that.

→ WRITE A STARTER POST

You just post in-character. For example:

You can use these tags: #bsd rp#bsd#bsd rp blog#bsd roleplay#bsd oc blog#bsd rp starter#starter#rp starter#open rp#ask to join or you think about your own.

So, other people can reblog your post, add their character's reaction and BOOM... The scene begins! :D

→ SEND A ROLEPLAY ASK

If you see someone you'd love to interact with, go to their inbox and send something like:

⚠️ Always include your character's blog name at the end, so the other person knows who you're playing and can respond properly.

⚠️ Tumblr only allows main blogs to send asks, so if you're using a sideblog (like most do), you'll need to send it anonymously.

⚠️ You can't send images anonymously, so if your scene idea needs a visual (like a letter, a map, etc.), send it from your main blog – but don't forget to include your RP blog name!

→ YOUR CHARACTER IS PART OF THE PORT MAFIA

If your character is part of the Port Mafia, there's one extra step:

The mafia here has a hierarchy. Please message @join-the-pm and think about which department your character would fit in. It'll help others understand your role in the organization and make plotting way easier.

No problem, that is what the @bsd-rp-masterlist is for!

You can browse by affiliation and think:

"I have a character in the ADA and want to talk to a coworker."

or

→ HOW DO RP CONVERSATIONS WORK?

Once a scene starts, you write/play by reblogging and replying to the other person's post. It becomes a beautiful chain of interactions like:

Each time, you add your reply under the last post, by clicking reblog.

⚠️If it's a group thread, always reblog from the most recent post, not the original! Multi-threading is fun, but it gets chaotic fast if people reply out of order.

⚠️Tip: Always double-check which blog you're posting from. It's easy to slip up when you have several blogs. Don't worry, we've all been there!

How to change the blog:

→ ARE THERE RULES, HOW I WRITE?

There are no strict rules. Some people write short & fast, others write paragraphs. Some love angst, others prefer fluff. As long as you're kind and respectful, you're doing it right. ASK if you are not sure!

When you write you can choose how to write it:

etc. It is totally up to you how to handle this. :)

The wiki is fine- because it contains the entire text of all the print works and games (Generally, if something on the wiki has Japanese text on the left hand side and English text on the right hand side, like the following, it's reliable.)

The plaintext articles themselves are written by Touhou fans, which are an interesting bunch with their own ideas on everything and thus less reliable. But if you don't want to wikidive for translations, my personal recommendation of where to start is:

Touhou Suzunaan ~ Forbidden Scrollery

Volumes 1-7 (that is to say, the whole thing) are available for purchase on Amazon (in English) if you're into that sort of thing, but it's also on Mangadex and the like. It is a series from the perspective of a girl living in the human village, who knows very little about the broader workings of Gensokyo as a whole. As such, it's a very good introduction for a beginner (since you get to learn as she does).

After that, my recommendation is Wild and Horned Hermit (another manga, starring Ibaraki Kasen, a "hermit" and busybody), Perfect Memento in Strict Sense and Symposium of Post-Mysticism (text of these is available on the wiki), and any of the fighting games (they tend to be far more story-heavy than the shmups, but do require English patching. My first recommendation for these is Scarlet Weather Rhapsody, as it stars quite a lot of recurring characters, then Urban Legend in Limbo, followed by Antinomy of Common Flowers). As for the shooting games, their scripts are also available on the wiki, but if you want to actually play them, I recommend starting with Touhou Youyoumu ~ Perfect Cherry Blossom if you're willing to go for piracy, and Touhou Fuujinroku ~ Mountain of Faith if you're not (it's on Steam). There are also a couple of ongoing manga, but you might have a hard time following them if you're not up to date on some of the older print works.

If you want to understand what I refer to as "Hifuu", you'll want to read the stories of the music CDs (also on the wiki), starting with Ghostly Field Club (Dolls in Pseudo Paradise is its own thing). This is mostly self-contained, however (apart from some cross-references with a certain character).

Final Note: For the most part she's been revamped for Strive's Mechanics, not to mention probably has a new Wild Assault and probably isn't as affected by *Knockdown Syndrome* as she used to be (hopefully).

Listen. I know what it’s like to get stumped when writing a starter for someone- It happens to me all of the time.  We don’t wanna mess something up or get a detail wrong- It’s nerve-wracking! So I’ve put together this brief guide on getting stuff started with Carmichael. 

Places you’ll find him:

In a church. Literally nothin’ wrong with writing a starter with your muse meeting him in a church 

Bars at night. He plays piano at fancy lil’ bars at night for extra $$$ 

In his garden by his house. Stop on by

Stuffing his face with donuts and boiled eggs at a diner

Stuck on the side of the road bc his junky moped has stopped working.

Farmers markets. 

Getting lost in a big city

Walking his dog

Activities he enjoys:

Bowling. Let’s form a bowling league y’all

Gardening

singing + playing piano, organ, or bass

Eating donuts

Antiquing but he can’t afford anything

Playing with his dog

Aeleanor/Aeson: A is an early riser as it is... so on the rare occasion that they’re still asleep when you awaken? I am certain that would love to be woken up by soft kisses. Or you could keep cuddling with them because they’ll be out the door the moment they get up and ready.

Elaria/Ezra: E would love to be woken with food. Breakfast in bed is something they’ve always enjoyed, and now that they have you to share it with? It has become that much more special.

Catherine/Caleb: Coffee. The smell of coffee will wake them up faster than anything else. Plus it’ll warm their heart that you were willing to make them a cup. 

Lydia/Luca: I wouldn’t wake them up with a massage and/or kisses. So whacking them with a pillow might work. (Even though they would prefer the former.)

Samara/Silas: I think they would adore the MC instigating a tickle fight... it means that you just waged war on them. Meaning that an all-out battle was about to insure. 

Milena/Maven: Waking them up by gently shaking them is preferable to M. As it gives them enough time to gather their bearings. Plus, it also means that they’ll get used to your touch. 

Natalia/Nikolas: Depends on the day/night they had. Usually, if they’re still asleep by the time you wake up let them continue. As there would be a specific reason why they’re still asleep. Other circumstances I would kiss them softly on the cheek repeatedly. 

Lauren: Same thing as with N... if she’s still asleep I would let her sleep. (Unless she has somewhere to be.) If she does then I would wake her up with some cuddles and kisses. 

Faolan: You could just lay on top of him and tickle him... that’ll wake him up and it would amuse him greatly.

A lot of people have been talking about wanting to start rp blogs lately, and I know it can be overwhelming and confusing (and frustrating sometimes) so I thought I’d whip out a small guide for the basics!

1 - The Blog dun dun DUn! Choose a url that either includes the name of your character or something associated with them if you can cause it helps other rpers in your fandom find you! Skip that if it’s an OC :) Optional: Some people like to make their rp blogs side blogs because they’re really convenient and easy to organise. If you plan on rping a lot, I suggest making your rp blog its own blog as you can’t send messages with side blogs, but both honestly work fine because you can send anon messages and just sign with your url if you really want to use a side blog. Here’s how to make one:

2- Make sure your ask box is open! That way people can send you ask rp memes (you can find a lot in just the tag ‘ask rp memes’ or ‘rp memes’ or ‘ask memes’ ) or ask if you want to rp with them! 

3 - It’s always a good idea to put your age and your character’s age so that everyone can be safe and appropriate

4- It’s also a good idea to list any triggers you have or any other helpful info for people who want to rp with you! 5 - THE WORDS Mun is short for Mundane and it means the person writing the character/ author! 

Muse is what people call their character that they rp as! 

6- Starting the rp! There’s a couple ways to do this.  -- You can answer an ‘open starter’ that someone has posted looking for new rpers to play with. Make sure that it’s open to more than just mutuals - it will say in the tags!

-- You can POST an open starter! This can be any length. You can establish setting and stuff like that, but make sure that no matter how long or short it is there is dialogue or an action that someone can respond to! -- Send an ask meme! usually this involves sending symbols or something that an rper has shared with different rp prompts, send them one!

7- Replying! To reply to an rp, just reblog your partner’s post and add your reply below theirs, it’s that simple! It’s always a good idea to tag the post with the partner’s url, and a title or keyword so that you can keep track of different stories (some people call these threads). A handy trick is the ‘chrono’ tool.  It’s like this: https://yoururl.tumblr.com/tagged/yourtag/chrono and it shows all your posts for that rp in order so you can read it again! Sometimes people like to include reaction gifs or icons along with their posts. Sometimes they like to format and do fancy stuff with their text. This is all optional, it doesn’t mean you’re a good or bad rper if you do or don’t use them and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise! If you have any other helpful hints and tricks feel free to add them. Remember the most important thing: Have fun and help other people have fun! If you’re not happy or having fun, someone is doing something wrong. Always support each other, and always remember that mission! 

Okay, so, I’ve been thinking about this ask for awhile. Was going to do a whole thing on the comics. BUT, it sounds like you’re more starting to get into the comics(?), so I shall recommend you what I personally started with, & a few more recent entries that I think are good for ‘starters’… 

 1. THE ORIGINAL 1989 ALIEN VS PREDATOR SERIES

 It’s the original & ran for I believe (8) issues. It’s the beginning of one of the Predator (& Alien) universe’s most prolific human characters: Machiko Noguchi. It’s a fantastic comic and if you want a more detail version of it (including some of the best Yautja expanded universe lore), check out the novel AVP: Prey by Steve & Stephani Perry. 

 2. CONTINUING ON THAT THERE IS THE STILL AFFORDABLE AVP OMNIBUS #1

It furthers/continues Machiko’s story (AND includes the original AVP) with a few arcs & even has ‘Duel’ which has Light-Stepper’s battle with a Predalien. 

 3. PREDATOR: FIRE & STONE 

 A more modern story that makes use of the questionable ‘Prometheus’ lore… However Ahab is a Yautja worth reading about, and his hunt for the Engineer is the one good thing out of Prometheus (2012). 

 4. CONCRETE JUNGLE (VERY DIFFERENT THAN THE CLASSIC GAME)

 This is an odd one for me to recommend as it sort of involves a Predator invasion. But, it’s the first comic appearance of the Predator and has an interesting behind the scenes story. It’s rumoured to be the scrapped plot for Predator 2 (1990), following Dutch’s brother in New York. Again there is also a novelization. 

 5. BIG GAME 

This is one of those classic basic Predator stories. Which pits a Yautja against a military enrolled Native American in the New Mexico desert. Another cool thing is the Yautja are like an Ancient Legend. Again, there’s also a novel. (A point to note is that this has enough of a classic status to warrant Prime 1 Studios making a statue of the Issue #1 cover art). 

 6. BAD BLOOD 

 An absolute CLASSIC. This is THE story about Bad Blood/‘Criminal’/Dishonoured Yautja… And the hunters that go after them. 

 7. BONUS: IF YOU RANDOMLY COME ACROSS THIS AND ARE UNSURE ABOUT DELVING INTO PREDATOR COMICS… MAYBE TRY THE BATMAN CROSSOVERS(?) 

 There’s 3 of them. I’d recommend starting with the original/1st one of course.
