Helena has learned to love-hate the darkness, the cold that slips in the cracks of exposed skin, the empty spaces where muscleboneflesh should fill; it is part of her - she is a creature of darkness, she has learned - part of her past, her present, her future.

She looks to the stars, a constant reminder of light (of beauty) in the darkness, the perfect infinite sign that, whether or not there is a God (and she questions, oh does she question now), there is something that cares to break through the darkness.

She wonders how long it is until she's peppered with holes like the midnight black blanket of the night sky, and whether or not the light in her (is there light in her? she doesn't know she doesn't know) will shine through.
