#star spawn

I think the Star Spawn of Cthulhu are pretty interesting, but they don't really get used in a way that vibes with my brain for whatever reason. It seems like they're just there to be big scary squiddies (which I do love) but at the same time there's a sort of like.

lack of threat to them? In a way? Like the level of Danger going on isn't actually all that high because it's not really Cthulhu.

and the descriptions are really evocative and visceral, but the book they're from doesn't have art for them, so i had this really cool image in my head. but then wotc added art for them and they're kinda just... guys

(the centipede dude at least is pretty cool tho ngl)

anyway i drew them with my own spin on em based on the descriptive text

So my brother got me into painting minis and scratch-building my own minis. I really want to show off what I've done so far!

This is DRUNKLE! The Hammered Lizard Wizard! He was a gift from two very good friends of mine. I did my best to paint and shadow him (one of two that I applied a wash to because I lost my wash D:)

This is Wash Tub Friendo! Or Babushcrab... Can’t decide which is a better name.

Did I mention I have SIX CRABS!? They are part of a traveling caravan! Still a work in progress. But this little friend is Chauffeur!

Clack-Clink! The sound of claws and pints of beer! and also her name!

Snappers is perhaps the ONLY crab who is more prepared to STAB than to SNIP! He’s got a +1 sword and no qualms about using it!

This is my favorite crab thus far. TREASURE CRAB! His name is obvious sure, but his job is an important one. Carry the treasure and pinch whomever gets to handsy! 

This is Potato Jones. They carry potatoes and less important cargo but are no less loved amongst crustacean merchants!

Though not the owner of the Crab Shack Traveling Merchant Caravan, Rider Ronda is indeed related! She and her Runner Ryuti usually have they’re own adventures out and about the many magical lands!

This is Theun! My character for STRAHD. The town’s executioner turned hero! He ended up leaving the party to join the mountain folk so now I’m playing another character (literally just finished the mini and now I won’t be using it for the campaign...)

BEHOLD A STAR SPAWN! No crazy story. Just a big fishy guy. I really liked painting him. Painting the water the best part!

Oh... and this is the PROTO-CLOWN CONTAINMENT UNIT!!!!!! Built him out of an Easter egg, a plastic lid, a tripod, and some miscellaneous toy bits! I am SO proud of how this turned out! 

THE PROTO-CLOWN WITHIN! Both the reason for containment and the FUEL for the machine! DON’T QUESTION IT! Just make sure it never ESCAPES!!!... Also...

These next few aren’t complete obviously... But I am excited to start painting! This here is a Laser Dino Commando I put together using some robot bits, a toy gun, and a dinosaur toy! Primed and ready to receive a colorful coat!

This little lady is actually what was left of like... four minis that had been destroyed by the cat of the house. Now cobbled together into a demon warrior!

Yet another Laser Dinosaur! Triceratops with what I can only assume to be a triple barrel GAUSS CANON!!!
