We were successful!!!!!! Amazing news!🦈 Shark fishing will now be banned from the Venice Beach Pier after the City Council hearing vote as of yesterday. In 2019, the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation published a report on North American fireflies, warning that “populations appear to be in decline”. The three largest contributors to their decline are light pollution, habitat loss and pesticides. Believe it or not, fireflies have been around since the dinosaur era, dating back to over 100 million years! All of this was made possible through the incredible collaboration of Animal Legal Defense Fund and Farm Sanctuary. One Protest's Campaign Director Nicole Cordano and photographer Jim Abernethy @jim_abernethy of @Wildlifevoiceinc showed up to document and assist with the mission. A team of rescuers from five different Florida sanctuaries carried out heroic feats in the rescue and recovery of the 113 animals that were destined for slaughter. If a mother is killed, cubs are left orphaned and stand little to no chance of making it on their own.
