Meet Kasthuri! She's our #BearOfTheMonth! She was rescued when she was only six months old but had already been subjected to immense abuse and cruelty by her Kalandar owners who used her as a 'Dancing Bear' on the streets of West Bengal. Currently residing at the #BannerghattaBearRescueCenter, Kasthuri has been provided a lot of enrichments in her enclosure to channelize her seemingly unlimited energy and one can always find her busy disassembling enrichments, rolling honey logs and digging up insect mounds. Less than 1 month old, Laila was rescued by #WildlifeSOS' anti-poaching team in 2007 before she could be smuggled across the border to be used in traditional Chinese medicines. Today, this healthy 10 year old bear can be seen splashing around in her pool with her sloth bear friends at the #AgraBearRescueFacility. Our Anti-Poaching team, code name “Forest Watch” works by way of a large and complex network of informers who gather critical intelligence on wildlife criminals and the illegal trade of endangered wild animals and their body parts.

Meet Karadi! He was only 6 weeks old when rescued by Team #WildlifeSOS from Hobli, Karnataka in Feb' 2005. At the time of his rescue, Karadi had a frail body frame weighing a mere 2.4 kilogram, was highly anemic and had an infected wound on his muzzle. He was immediately transported to our #AgraBearRescueFacility where he was given the necessary medical treatment and care and has since, been living a happy and healthy life with his other bear friends. This playful and mischievous sloth bear is now 11 years old and weighs approx.112 kgs. Karadi has quite a hearty appetite and is particularly fond of fruits like watermelons, apples and pomegranates.

Meet Odom, our #BearOfTheMonth! Starved, abused and forced to live the agonizing life of a dancing bear, Odom was confined to a life of exploitation and brutality, for nearly nine years. In 2009, he was rescued from a Kalandar family in Karnataka & has been living under the care of the #WildlifeSOS team ever since.
