Honestly, almost all of his music makes me feel strong, probably because he knows that the most powerful human emotions can’t always be neatly put into actual words. When I listen to this song, human voice is just as much of an instrument as the drums, and it all evokes feelings that go beyond language barriers. This song sounds like humans to me. This song sounds like overcoming the odds. a song that makes you sad: Give Me a Sign by Breaking Benjamin. This one is strange because I haven’t listened to this band in years (I found my long-time goldfish dead while I was listening to this band, and I’ve had negative associations ever since). But regardless of time that goes by, when somebody says “sad song”, I think of this one. Ben Burnley’s voice haunts me. One night, I cried in bed for about an hour, not because I had something to be sad about at the time, but because the desperation and tired was so portrayed so wonderfully (awfully). “God help me, I’ve come undone.” “I’m falling apart.”a song with great lyrics: Don’t Dink and Drance by The Devil Wears Prada. I’m not going to go into detail about this one, because I think it’s important that people make their own meanings out of songs like this. It’s a three minute long, angry song. But the lyrics by themselves are a mere short poem. I love the color symbolism, and how oddly calming and detached he sounds from the world. My two favorite lines: “Crows will flee the scene as if to remind me how long it’s been since I have seen a dove.” “Present yourself; as you know you are the sky, and anchor, of my being” (That was my blog title for a while. One of most beautiful things I’ve ever read.) a song for summer: Love Me Badder by Elliphant. I found this song in the dead of winter, but it feels like summer to me. Nothing screams summer more than brand new passionate love, a contagious beat that’s impossible to dance to, and slight reggae vibes.
