1. Heat seeking torpedoes are really bloody stupid as an idea and I hate the fact they got brought up so much. I don't have time to explain why, they just are, and frankly acoustic or wake homing torpedoes, which have the benefit of actually existing, would've worked with only minimal suspension of disbelief and would give for what I'd call an even better way of being defeated.

2. I cannot express how stupid it is to use a Yasen class submarine here, especially because I think there is a much better alternative right there. A Yasen is a nuclear powered submarine, and there are exactly six of them, all in current russian naval service. There's just not that many of them, and they're probably pretty busy! Instead, I'm now mentally replacing all mentions of the Yasen nuclear subs with old Kilo class diesel submarines, or some other non nuclear and suitably antiquated design, and headcanonjng that it was somehow bought from the black market during the collapse of the USSR or something.

Trying not to say much spoiler-wise since it just came out.

Zoe is… something. I liked it but her whole arc needed a lot more time to work and there was a much simpler route to take that would have been even better.

Ben growth lets go, loved everything about that hallway scene. Also that his ability to be underestimated is finally paying off in more ways than just brainpower.

Loved also how Erica feels safe enough to show more complex emotions around Ben and the the rest of the squad. Disappointed about the rival thing being dropped immediately though. I would definitely like to see a Russian anti-Ben and anti-Erica face off.

Appearance of that one character that hadn’t been mentioned since the first book was great, love to see them in action again (the ones who’ve read the book may agree).
