Just finished hanging up the repainted bird feeder. The birds have been waiting but I don't think they will be eating much with all of the rain today. I have been asked to build another one for a customer soon. If interested in a squirrel proof bird feeder made out of all upcycled steel, message me for details. It holds almost 2 lbs of food and will allow birds up to the size of a cardinal to access the food. Bigger birds like starlings can't perch on it well or get their head into the windows to get food. I have 3 squirrels that have chewed up every bird feeder until this one due to being plastic. They get irritated they can't chew through it to rob the food so about all they get is what the other birds kick out on the ground. The top disc is 6.5 inches in diameter by 30 inches tall. The body tube is 3 inches. This will require a good support as it has some weight to it so a strong Sheppard staph or hook from under a tree will be needed. I burnt the paint off of my squirrel proof bird feeder I made last year and decided to paint it another color. Coca-Cola red. I squirrels did a number on the old paint chewing on the metal parts because they got so mad not being able to get into it to rob it of bird seed. This has been the longest lasting feeder as there previous 3 plastic feeders available commercially got holes chewed through them. It's constructed out of emt tubing, sheet metal and rod. The small birds can get as much as they want but bigger birds like the starlets have trouble perching so they don't hang around much. The top got damaged from a falling tree branch so I am in the process of building a new one for it. A simple fence post cap with a hole in the top works well. The top hanging hook threads on with a coupler nut. I made the dished top cap surround out of old Jimmy John's sandwich signs. I don't have a tig welder or I'd tig weld the cap and surround together so I used the next best thing, epoxy to glue the two together. When it's painted I'll post more pictures of its inner workings.
