it goes into crazy depth on seifer’s trauma and his subsequent healing journey after running into squall 2 years post-war. pretty graphic violent imagery, heavy heavy angst, does discuss non-con and sexual assault (not between sxs), but main pairing is characterised so realistically. seifer starts off a hedonistic playboy who really needs therapy but he’s down bad for squall the second squall walks back into his life. they both change for the better!! they both make each other want to be better!!!!!!!! god i love reading relationships with huge fuckin growth

this fic will make u question everything about canon with how realistic the worldbuilding is😭😭it’s the longest sxs fic on AO3 😭😭 but it’s so worth the read.

"For once in your life, Seifer, just do what I say."

Seifer whirled around to face him. "For once in your life, Squall, talk to me. Really talk to me, and maybe I'll consider it."

It was the worst time for Squall to be lost for words.

Seifer scoffed. Like he always did. "As if I care."

Squall fought his instinct for silence to say, "Stop acting."

"What?"

Squall didn't want to have to explain, but, "Be real, for once in your life."

Seifer shook his head solemnly. "Nobody wants that."

Squall stormed into his office, grumbling under his breath.

Seifer wisely dodged out of his way and waited for him to sit down.

Then he asked, "What's up with you, Princess?"

"Fuck you," Squall said. "And fuck random."

When Seifer returned from the field, his lack of access to basic necessities during the assignment was obvious. Squall ran his fingers through Seifer's grown-out hair and asked, "Have you thought about keeping it?"

"Why?" Seifer looked over his shoulder. "You like it?"

Seifer growled at his cards. He had one choice. It was shit. He did it anyway.

Squall gathered up his winnings with a tiny smirk.

"Don't know why I play against you," Seifer complained. "Your deck is stacked to Hyne."

"You love me," Squall said.

"Sorry, Squall," Quistis said as she stacked another folder on top of Squall's already overflowing inbox.

Squall eyed the tower of paper evenly.

Seifer stared at him until Squall couldn't ignore him anymore.

Seifer said, "I can't tell if you're perfectly fine or screaming internally."

Squall glared over at Seifer. "You tried to kill me."

Seifer didn't even open his eyes. It was too early for this. "Squall, at this point in our relationship, a murder attempt is as good as a love confession."
