“ i’m not expecting you to stay, you know that, right? you don’t have to. ” tony may have wanted steve to stay but it felt unfair to make him. admittedly the other mans presence did bring him comfort, in fact he’d never admit it out loud but he needed him there but he didn’t want to be a burden nor did he want to push steve away all because he got to see him at his lowest. so initially his reaction was to try and get him to leave or at least give him the option and even he wanted to curse himself out for that.
tony rested his head down onto steve’s shoulders, his eyes shut as he breathed in. his fingers itched to reach out for him but he resisted, just keeping his head against him for as long as he’d be allowed. “ i’m sorry, you shouldn’t have to be here. i shouldn’t have - i could have dealt with this on my own, they are just night terrors after all.”
