For a show that's very weak on comedy and humor, Netflix DMC has this one surprisingly funny bit:
Beowulf and that other guy shaking with anger just thinking about Sparda. And then Mundus starts gushing about how justified Sparda was in betraying him and those two are STUNNED.
Probably the only funny moment in the whole show. The timing is right, the choice to have their faces in as Mundus yaps. Comedy. And of course, Mundus's desparate pining isn't lost on other characters.

Headcanon time: Mundus and Sparda met as children. Mundus saved a starving tiny Sparda and thus the older demon became his prince. The Prince of Darkness was a cold moniker for Mundus but to Sparda, it meant the world. The start of a new life.
Mundus had intended to make the Underworld and the Human World one by cutting off their barrier.
Maybe this was Mundus's attempt to "impress"/taunt Sparda before his outright rebellion. "Oh you like these humans so much? Allow me to make these worlds one so you can always be by their sides. My gift to you, Sparda, my gallant knight."
Cue Sparda's grief and rebellion
And Sparda "hold no grudges against his own kind", meaning Sparda did what was right. To save the humans.

AAAAH, finally someone asked me about this YES, I do.
With how devoted Sparda once was to Mundus, winning him the throne of hell, I imagine they were close quite a bit. I see them as childhood friends, with Mundus being slightly older who guided and kinda showed him the way.
Since Sparda is often associated with swords (even his name is interpreted as a word play on "spada" Latin word for sword), I see it as Mundus put the notion in Sparda's head that he is a sword, a weapon to be held by Mundus himself. Both as a way to have this uber powerful demon by his side and...well Mundus kinda came to Sparda. As much as someone like him can.
It wasn't healthy but Sparda was..."happy". After all, Mundus is all he's known. Berial describes Sparda as "cold and quiet" but Mundus had seen his softer side.
Also Mundus was a little jealous when Sparda connected with others like when he took Baul and Modeus under his wings. They were just his apprentices but Mundus just didn't like someone else taking Sparda's time and attention but he let it slide because the brothers made Sparda happy.
But when someone like Nevan flirted with Sparsa...Mundus saw red. He sabotaged it bad.
Sparda is clueless the whole time.π
"I have given you your every desire."
"Have you succumbed to their primitive nature?"
And Mundus's first reaction to Sparda's betrayal is accusing him of banging a human...damn.
