Shavehorse! Well 2/3rds of one. I passed my maths and English skills assessments today so I thought I’d treat myself and make a shavehorse. I’ve always wanted one and my drawknife has been judging me for not providing it with its dance partner. First time using my new chopsaw too so that was fun. I posted this a while back, but with the scrollsaw project finally starting up I wanted to show it off again. This is (what the #igwoodworkingcommunity believes to be) big leaf maple burl. After I square the edges, I'll be resawing and book matching it to 1/4" slices, gluing it all up into a scrolling blank and cutting out the front and center small tree, which is about 6x8". Originally, I thought it would be nice to stain it faker, but I think the small tree and burl pattern out front will be a nice accent to the piece. This is the spokeshave I built for the longboard. It has a very nice blade that I had lying around. I added a Makassar closer to the Hornbeam dai. It is pretty wide and heavy duty, but takes very nice shavings when it’s tuned properly. Learned a lot on this one. The next one will be a smaller convex sole spokeshave.
