Freedom.
Well, not in strictest sense, but he was free from binds of his cell (and quite literally carried out by Orville)- Set free and given a sword, the time had come to fight. If it had been two years ago, his mild bitterness would’ve been full of righteous fury, but anger wouldn’t solve anything. Chances were that clinging to such ire would only make Demise and his demonic armies stronger.
However, Link wished for a do over of what had happened four years ago. Maybe, just maybe, if something had gone differently, their land wouldn’t be under siege by the Demon King. Perhaps they sky would still be dazzling blue, not blotted out by the oppressive smoke. Grass would’ve been growing, yielding crops, not soaking blood as if it were a sponge. Unfortunately, pondering on these ‘what ifs’ would get them no where- their focus had to be on the future, and saving it.
The Goddess Sword was a constant companion at his side (as was its soul, Fi, a constant friend). And the lesser known fact, Hylia was soon often see with him, unless she had business with the Sheikah.
After checking up with the captains, making sure the current strongholds were holding up to Demise, Link decided to do a bit of recon when it came to one of her Grace’s temples. While there was no reason to do so; time away from it all would allow him a moment of rest (and ponder what to do next, attempting to do it during a meeting with other knights and nobles never got anywhere).
Traversing Faron Woods with ease, the knight made his way to the temple. If anyone were to get onto him about going out and about in the dark, Link could always say he was looking out for the White Goddess’ interests. The hidden Gate of Time was surely a point of interest when it came to Demise (Which a select few knew of), there was a reason the other Gate of Time was always guarded by the Sheikah.
Yet, once he pushed through the old stone doors, the hero soon realized he wasn’t alone.
