GIRLY, WHO WERE FREIAāS CANON EVENTS (if she had them yet)??? š
Thanks for the ask, girlie! Once again, I didnāt have everything mapped out ahead of time, but inspiration struck, and I was able to put together her canon event stories! I hope you enjoy it. Oh, and I also included info about Freia's monster form!

Freia takes on a more monstrous form as Spider-Orchid! In this form, she has two sets of long, arachnid arms sprouting from her back (complete with retractable claws), as well as four black eyes and facial markings that resemble those of the radioactive peacock spider that bit her. This earned her the nicknames ālittle bugā, āBugsā & āBuggyā from her grandma, uncle & allies. Underneath is a peacock spiders image, for anyone curious.
And now on to her backstory and the canon events!
Canon event 1: Being raised by a relative: Freia was taken in and raised by her cunning but loving grandmother, Mayabelle, whoās an opinionated, very sharp-tongued, and witty old woman. Mayabelle (who's not even that old) often pretends to be weaker and slower than she truly is, both for exploitative reasons and for the lols (this facade inspired the mischievous Freia to put on her shameless āIām just a girl š„ŗšā act during attempts to either appear falsely sweet & innocent, or to get out of trouble. It doesnāt always work, tho). Freia was frequently visited by her half-uncle Benji (short for Benjamin), who was not only a doting uncle but also the one who taught her crucial self-defense skills and introduced her to anarchistic, anti-government ideals.
Canon event 2: The death of Uncle Benjamin: Benji discovered Freiaās secret identity as Spider-Orchid some months before he was wrongfully shot in broad daylight by a corrupt police captain. After narrowly escaping police pursuit, Benji was tracked down by Freia, who found him bleeding in a dark alley. During their last conversation, he delivered the āwith great power comes great responsibilityā line. Watching her beloved uncleāwho had loved her as if she were his own daughterāpass away in her arms scarred Freia for life; even years later, she still has dreams and nightmares about him.
Canon event 3: The death of a cop: With the full support of Mayabelle and her ever-reliable man-in-the-chair, Li, Freia set out on her revenge mission to track down her uncleās killer. This brought about the day when the police captain arrived home to unexpectedly find the eerily calm Spider-Orchid waiting for him. She confronted him about the murder of Benji, unmasking her monstrous face (fully intent on replacing his usual smugness with sheer fear and horrifying him in his final moments) before taking the terrified captainās life.
The death of Uncle Benji and his final words transformed her from a young hero who was hesitant to kill, into a remorseless, morally grey anti-hero who already had a body count prior to joining the Spider-Society. Spider-Orchid has a deep-seated distrust of the police and government, and she sometimes lets petty thieves go, particularly when the culprits are very young or have been compelled to steal due to unfortunate circumstances. She herself sometimes acquires things by using a five-finger discount (if you know what I mean), but she typically reserves this for larger businesses, as she believes in supporting small local enterprises.
Canon event 4: Upside-down kiss: Spider-Orchid shared the classic upside-down kiss with her universeās Prowler (aka Hobie Brown), which happened one night while they were playfully bickering and bantering outside, having come across each other earlier during Spider-Orchid's patrol.

She was involuntarily genetically altered and had her genes sliced with spider DNA making her half human and half spider which gave her a spider hybrid form that she can transform into. She is color changing! She is inspired by the parasteatoda tepidariorum spider and pink crab spider since I wanted her to have the body of a Parasteatoda along with their webbing but still occasionally pink like a pink crab spider. I will mostly draw her in black since I like how black looks with pink and I think it makes her a littleeeee bit creepier. In her dimension, a spider (fictional) called Parasteatoda Arcus exists which she was altered with. Arcus meaning bow or arch to refer to rainbows since the spider is color changing. Thank you to my lovely mutual @pushingpesticides for coming up with this name and letting me use it! <3

The genetic alteration has left her traumatized. Rosabella lost her bodily autonomy and feels deeply violated from having her fundamental biology altered without her consent. She also goes through an Identity crisis and struggles to feel "human" and questioning who she is after the alteration. She feels she lost her humanity and has a hard time looking at her reflection for awhile knowing the other half of her. It just serves as a constant reminder of her own lost normalcy and bodily autonomy. Even knowing that she is half human and half spider doesnāt make it easier. Rosabella really tries her best not to but she often feels feelings of detachment from ordinary humans and society due to the changes forced onto her and she hates it because she wants to be with others but she doesnāt believe they can accept her if they knew and she doesnāt want to risks the lives of her loved ones if someone ever discovered that she was Spider-Woman and word got out about it. Despite being able to defend herself from this happening again, she is still hyper-vigilant and on edge. Rosabella constantly fears who she is now coming out because of stigma, rejection, discrimination and overall being treated as an outsider by unmodified peers which leads to social isolation for quite some time. Yes, she knows that she can do good with her new abilities and she takes on the mantle of Spider-Woman and always will do her best but it still isnāt an easy thing to accept. She does like being Spider-Woman despite the alternation even though the mantle can be stressful and overwhelming. Another part to the social isolation is to keep her identity as La AraƱa/Spider-Woman concealed since she couldnāt control the transformations in the beginning. Rosabella eventually accepts what happened to her by seeing her altered biology as unique newfound traits and not just as a loss and proof of her resilience. Sheās still the same person deep down. She is still worthy of love and dignity.
When Rosabella gets recruited into the Spider-Society, she meets Miguel and Spider-Ham who went through similar things and she stops feeling so alone because she isnāt. Itās nice to have someone who can understand although itās heartbreaking what they went through to be able to understand. She becomes best friends with Spider-Ham and it does serve as a catalyst for her friendship (and eventual relationship) with Miguel. It was the first they had in common. Meeting someone with a similar non-consensual alteration provides an understanding from the beginning. The both of them find they can no longer relate to normal humans and it creates a bond of understanding. They did not ask for their new traits but they use them for good. Theyāve talked about what it was like to get their abilities for the first time, comparing their abilities since theyāre both half human and half spider but it manifested in different ways, how close people came to finding out, what lies they saidā¦
But enough of all that! Here are her abilities! >o<
When Rosabella is a spider hybrid, she loses her spidersense and she has poor eyesight so she has enhanced hearing, smell, touch and taste to help her with her surroundings and fight villains. She has paralyzing venom that she can inject people with using both her fangs (teeth) and her cheliceral fangs along with color changing organic webbing that comes from a hole in her wrists. (She normally uses white and pink webbing hehe ^_^)
She has an exoskeleton of a spider around her torso and her arms since they look like long formal gloves which I thought was cute. In order not to get strands of hair in her eyes (ouch since she canāt close them), she keeps her hair up in a bun. Her transformation to her spider hybrid form is agonizing since she has to do a chest stand to transform into it along with growing to be eight feet tall, having her legs turn into spider legs and having to grow 6 additional spider legs and the same with her eyes. Fangs too. When sheās in her spider hybrid form; she sometimes get cravings for bugsā¦ itās her spider DNA, ok? OKAY THATS IT BYEEEE!!! >o<

Through the course of my research on BPD Iāve learned a lot about the process of splitting and how horrible it is for the person suffering. Chanel is borderline and I wanted to depict it honestly; her hairās chopped short and she has an infected tattoo. Lucky for her she still has someone in her corner to help her out.
Now, she still does, but she feels much worse about relying on them because most of her really close friends (the only people she trusts to understand) are other Spider-People who have lives of their own. Sheās learned to cope by now but the first time after Hobieās death and before the Spider Society was ROUGH.

beyond the obvious ālate 80s xmen comicsā inspiration, hereās some more of my inspiration/ref for Cassās hair/style! I think i might redesign her casual look soon, itās pretty clear to me that my modern sensibilities are preventing me from giving her some essential 80s flair (chunky fuckin earrings, satin, higher waisted pants) but i can confidently say her hair has just gotten closer to what i imagine it being the more i draw it
Disclaimer: I'm constantly changing the songs in this playlist. However the general lore will stay the same.
Summary: These two songs represent Ansi's childhood that she spent together with Hobie.
My Reasoning: I chose Moon River because the song has a nostalgic feel to it. The lyricist for Moon River states that the lyrics "are reminiscent of his childhood." This song also sounds like two kids playing make-believe, similar to how Ansi and Hobie used to play as kids.
I chose We'll Meet Again because it felt like the perfect goodbye. Neither Hobie nor Ansi knew if they'd ever see one another again but they liked to believe that one day they would.
Lore: It was September 21. Ansi was only eight years old at the time. Her father (Benjamin Taratella the assistant director of Alchemax) was tinkering away at his home workshop when he accidentally opened up a portal to Earth-138B. Just as he was able to close it, a small boy came hurtling through.
Stranded in a completely new and unfamiliar place, seven year old Hobie Brown immediately started to cry. Poor Benjamin didn't know what to do since his daughter rarely ever cried.
Ansi was enjoying her mid morning snack when she heard the cries coming from her father's workshop. So with cookies in hand she made her way to the basement, annoyed at whatever disrupted her snack time, to see what the noise was.
To her surprise she was met by a teary eyed young boy and her father frantically attempting to calm him down.
Upon realizing that the sounds were coming from the boy she immediately opened her mouth to let him have. However, she decided against it after remembering how her mother popped her the last time she told someone to shut up.
One thing she did notice about the boy, aside from the irritating sounds he kept making, was the way his eyes, while teary, never looked away from her box of Fudgetown cookies. So she offered him a cookie saying that in exchange he wasn't allowed to cry anymore for the rest of the day. (She was a very blunt and straightforward child. T'was the autism)
Hobie was so shocked by Ansi's rude offer that he immediately stopped crying. He was irritated now. He argued that he couldn't control how he felt and so the deal was unfair. Ansi, however, had completely ignored his words. She was much more interested with his weird voice and his strange paper-like aesthetic. So of course she spoke her thoughts aloud.
This led to a back and forth fight of Ansi calling Hobie weird and Hobie saying that he wasn't which grew into a physical fight. (Thankfully Ansi's mother had come home at that point and broke the fight up. She wasn't happy with finding a random boy in her house. Much less one who was fighting her daughter right in front of her husband. Benjamin knew Ansi could hold her own so that's why he didn't do anything.)
Somehow despite this terrible first meeting they soon became completely inseparable over the two years that they were together. (Unfortunately for Ansi's parents this meant there were now two trouble makers in their house.)
Sadly, the day came when Hobie finally had to go home. It was a very tearful goodbye for the both of them (more so on Hobieās part than Ansi's.)
Unfortunately, before Ansi was able to fully process this her entire life was turned upside down. This was the start of the worst years of her life.
