Another great website ruined by manchildren and spergs!
why are people like that
Just want to make sure I'm not being oversensitive here, but someone (anonymously) referred to "spergs" and I felt uncomfortable with this, so I called them out (OK, a little less nicely than I could've done). They were like "no it's OK I have aspergers I wasn't using it derogatively I use it with my friends all the time" and like other people came in with like, "it's just internet slang" and "if you say sperg is offensive you're saying Asperger's is an offensive word too"... halp?
After looking up this term, no, I do not believe you are being oversensitive.
This term seems to be part of the overall online trend of referring to something as “autism,” “autistic,” etc. where it once would have been referred to with the R-slur.
In both cases, this is an ableist trend that must cease.
I do not know whether that Anon was simply misinformed, a troll, or an autistic person with internalized ableism.
However, I believe they are wrong, and should desist from trying to tell you -especially while they remain anonymous - what is and is not ableist.
In addition, it is worth mentioning that simply because one disabled person does not find something ableist, does not mean that all disabled people do not find it ableist, for the disabled community is not a monolith.
"You're not funny."
"WHO DO YOU THINK I AM, SETH MACFARLANE?!"
Me: ...what? Where the fuck did that come from?

'Special snowflake' is such a stupid and cliche insult that just oppresses people who are different!
says the beautiful new student of Wizardstuck Academy, where superpowered alien teens go to learn magic. Her beautiful violet eyes glow with beauty in the sunset, and she turns around and leans against the balcony. Karkat gazes at her lovingly, then walks up to stroke her beautiful ebony locks. "You're right," he whispers sensually to her, "and nobody should ever use such words against a powerful Jedi Earthbender like you. You have the patience of an angel, if it were me I'd destroy them all."
She nods patiently, then rests her head on his shoulder. "Yes, my love," she inhales his scent, "in my time as a werewolf I learned a patience one could call...inhuman." She flashed him a fang-filled grin, and then the moon came up, and she turned into a wolf and flew away.
