Clara Ponsatí: "A referendum is not a crime. A guilty verdict to the Catalan leaders is a guilty verdict to the Catalan people that went to the polls on the referendum day, so everybody will feel the verdict in their own soul."

Clara Ponsatí is one of the Catalan politicians who have had to go on exile because of Spain's ideological persecution, after she contributed to the organization of a referendum to allow the inhabitants of Catalonia to vote on the future of their country deciding if they wanted to become independent or remain a part of Spain (obviously, yes to independence won and Spain didn't like it).

She is on exile in Scotland, where she could not be judged by Spain. But now the Spanish judicial system has, again, sent an euro-order demanding Scotland to capture her and bring her to Spanish territory, where she will immediately be imprisoned, judged, and condemned to years of jail, like the rest of the Catalan politicians who took part in the referendum.

Spain's euro-orders are not only to catch Clara Ponsatí, but are also directed at other Catalan politicians: Toni Comín, president Carles Puigdemont, and Lluís Puig, who are on exile in Belgium.

Spain's ideological persecution has already taken enough victims. Yesterday we posted this list of the people who are currently in jail, and in many cases in solitary confinement (considered torture by international standards), for being Catalan independentists. Some of them are activists, some are politicians, but the huge majority are random citizens who were captured either in peaceful demonstrations or when the police stormed their homes at night.

The Spanish government still refuses to meet with the Catalan government to listen to what Catalan people want. Spain only sends more military police to Catalonia and seems to be preparing the army against unarmed citizens. This is the behaviour we've had to suffer for centuries, and while Spain refuses to recognise that Catalan people have the same rights as all other people, they don't see that this is exactly why such a big part of Catalan society sees independence as an immediate need.

Spain is a fascist state. And we want to get out.

On 14/10/2019, 9 of our political leaders were sentenced to prison (varying from 9 to 13 years) for letting us VOTE. As a consequence many of us have been demonstrating since then.

You may have seen images of barricades and garbage containers on fire and as someone who has been demonstrating with all the people and has seen how police acts, I assure you those fires are NECESSARY: police shoots foam balls at our faces from a very short distance, they use their batons on our heads and they try to run us over. They even beat journalists.

4 people have lost an eye already, a minor was run over, a girl is fighting for her life due to a craniofacial trauma, hundreds of injured...

And yet, the mass media says that we are the violent ones, when it’s been proven that we are peaceful until the police arrives. It’s not violence, it’s self-defence.

I’m sad and tired and really fucking angry.
