Someone should make a fan art using this concept. Can we talk about how Lexa thought that she would NEVER get over the pain. Never. She was hopeless drowning in guilt and loss. 

I think we have all headcanoned that Lexa was sent Costia’s head as a proof of death, a “you have failed…this is what you have done..you’re fault” present from the Ice Nation. Now, we know that the Grounder burn their dead –releasing their spirits into the sky. They romanticize the sky like the Sky People romanticized the ground. “Till our final journey to the ground…” the Sky People would return bodies to the earth,Clarke in 1x06, “It’s not a meteor shower, it’s a funeral. Hundreds of bodies being returned to the Earth from The Ark.” The sky wasn’t a place of solace for them, the ground was. The delinquents buried their dead in the ground as their final resting place. This is another reason why I think Kane was adamant that “The boy (Finn) should be buried by his own people” after Lexa said that Finn’s body would be burned with the the people he murdered. They romanticize that the ground is the final resting spot for a soul to be at peace, burning Finn would release his spirit and soul into the sky. 

Additionally, Lexa used the wording ‘joined by fire’…this makes me think that burning the bodies together would let the souls that Finn took be able to confront Finn in the afterlife. However, this is just my speculation, what are their death and afterlife and reincarnation beliefs? What if they believe that a person has to be burned (all remnants of their earthly body turned to dust by fire) in order for their soul to enter the afterlife and their spirit reincarnated? 

If this is true, the Ice Nation only giving Lexa Costia’s head may have been even more painful for her. This ‘gift’ was also a message that Costia will never be fully whole and may never be able to go to the peaceful shores of the afterlife. Costia’s soul will never be at peace, she will forever be stuck in a place between worlds. The Ice Nation did this so that Lexa, even in death, will never be able to see Costia again. 

My money is on Octavia. Marie has been hanging out with horses a lot on her Instagram. Plus, I think she is riding outside of Camp Jaha when someone takes the Jeep out to go find her to say “you’re needed back at camp” or something.

Too many to count. The things she’s done, what she has to do she is seen as ruthless and a savage.Lets not think to the moment that Lexa tells Clarke that she cares about her, the moment when she confesses her love, it is used against her. The value of Lexa’s love is only to exploit it. Exploit it to persuade decision making. Costia was taken because Lexa loved her, Costia was used to find and exploit Lexa’s weaknesses. Costia was also Lexa’s weakness. Costia was her heart. They tried to destroy Lexa by attacking her heart, if they couldn’t cease the beating of Lexa’s physical heart – the one beating inside her chest – they would attack the embodiment of her heart; Costia. Costia was a constant for Lexa, much like the heart that was beating in her chest. Costia provided warmth, pumping Lexa full of joy and happiness in a world full of turmoil and anguish. 

Lexa struggles between wanting people to love her and not wanting them too. She feels like her love is a death sentence, there are too many examples that prove this claim. Being Heda is just as much a honor as it is a curse. She didn’t ask for this, but she was born for it. Just like a person isn’t asked to be born into this world, Lexa never asked for this burden that was placed on her. There was no election, she did not seek out this power. She added more burden on her shoulders by forming the Coalition, forming it for her people…bearing more responsibility. 

She is trying all the time. Trying to make the best choices with the terrible hand she is dealt. Everyone is counting on her and it is so hard. So, Clarke, a girl she loves in response to Lexa’s confession tries to use Lexa’s love for her to manipulate her. “Well if you care about me trust me, Octavia’s not at threat…’

Lexa’s confession is not met with reciprocation. It is met with manipulation. Unloveable. Love is weakness, another moment that reinforces this philosophy. Lexa realizes this and even though her heart is heavy –dragging her down feeling that she is unlovable, she doesn't’ let this weakness affect her decision making. She won’t fold just because she loves Clarke, to lead well she must put her head before her heart. Lexa won’t let herself make decisions when she is in a heightened emotional state. Love and other ‘weak’ human emotions lead to poor decision making. 

Lexa won’t trust Clarke just because she cares for her, they are separate. Lexa has only trusted herself for so long, only trusting a few beyond herself. You can be betrayed by the people you care about or even trust. She trusted Gustus to never harm her, but he betrayed her trust. She cared about and trusted Gustus, who ultimately betrayed her – even if it was to protect her…it was still a betrayal of her trust. Another moment that reinforces Lexa’s love is weakness philosophy. Clarke has lied to Lexa before to protect her people. She lied to Lexa saying that they cured Lincoln when they hadn’t. “You lied, and you are out of time”. Clarke could be lying about Octavia to protect her.  

ah HA! you thought you could destroy me by sending me this, but I have already worked though that painful thought! I think I have just exhausted all of the feels I have about the tragedy that is Gustus & Lexa at this point. Here is an excerpt:

MY CREATED BACK STORY: Imagine as Lexa ascended to her position as Heda, Gustus was always there. He was like a father/uncle figure to her. He was always at her side telling her to ‘Be strong’ in making her decisions. Be strong, don’t show your enemies weakness.  Her first execution he told her to ‘be strong’. Costia captured, tortured, and killed…be strong. News of Anya’s death with the burning of the 300…be strong.

‘Be strong’ has a special significance between the two of them, that only they know. NOW. Rewatch this scene with this in mind. After her tells her to be strong she squares her shoulder and sets her jaw.

Be strong in this moment. Be strong when I am gone. Be strong…goodbye.
