No Sooner Looked, Part 2 - Fangs x Reader
A/N: Waaay overdue, sorry about that. I had something written but I wasnโt happy with it and ended up scrapping the whole thing and starting again.
You and Fangs continued to talk in class. The work always got done but with you teaching him it was finished faster, leaving you time to chat near the end. Fangs was learning more and more about you and everything he heard, he liked. He listened more than he talked which was unusual for him, but he was interested. You never really opened up and even though it was just your likes and dislikes, it was still significant to him.
A few weeks went by (exactly eight chemistry lessons together) and at the end of their Monday afternoon session, Fangs continued to talk after the bell had rung.
โHey, do you want to sit with us at lunch tomorrow? Me and my friends, I mean.โ He said it casually but meaning was weighted on every word. After such a short time he was growing to care about you, but he knew that if you didnโt get along with the other Serpents, it would be a deal-breaker. Fangs was loyal to the core, even if it killed him.
โUm, okay,โ You said in a soft, hesitant voice. Talking in chemistry was just fine, but sitting together outside of lessons was different. As soon as that happens, the bright red name tag reading โACQUAINTANCEโ gets ripped off, replaced with a new one that hasnโt even been written on yet.
After agreeing, you rushed out of the room to your last period, cheeks turning pink as you walked.
Fangs, however, was smiling. A small, hopeful smile that wouldnโt leave his lips even throughout math ไธ something he was teased for immensely by Sweet Pea. But he didnโt care. Soon youโd see the side of him that he was truly proud of, and he couldnโt wait.
โHey, y/n, over here!โ Fangs called from across the cafeteria. The Serpents never usually sat inside, but this time of year it was too cold and they were all squeezed onto one table in the crowded lunchroom.
For the most part, youโd stayed within your comfort zone in terms of clothes ไธ same worn boots, jeans and earphones ไธ but youโd tried to change things up a bit by swapping out the usual grey hoodie with a frayed purple sweater that was just a little too big for you. You tugged at the edges nervously as you made your way to Fangsโs table.
โBudge up, Pea,โ Fangs hissed, practically shoving him off the bench to make room for you. โGuys, this is y/n.โ
A girl with pink waves and an endearing smirk leant forward on her elbows as if to get a better look at you, โSo youโre the girl Fogarty wonโt shut up about? Toni Topaz, by the way.โ
The tentative blush on your cheeks rapidly turned into a deep red. โMaybe, but who knows?โ
โThatโs true, you could be some cyborg out for our destruction, โ She joked.
You cocked your head, โDidnโt you just describe every Northsider ever?โ
That was met with howls of approval from all around the table, you hated the way most people treated Southsiders anyway and this seemed to be winning you some points.
โSo you donโt live on the Northside?โ Someone asked.
โTechnically I do, but only just. I live basically right next to the tracks. Iโm a few metres away from being a Southsider.โ
You usually avoided telling people about where you lived; it painted you as a poor girl. Itโs not like a house by the rails is particularly luxurious. But things were different with the Serpents. You couldnโt say things like that to anyone at Riverdale High, but the Serpents might be the only ones who would actually understand.
Lunch break wore on and now that youโd met his friends, Fangs felt like you were closer to him. In a way, you were more real. Heโd spent the past few weeks wondering what you were like outside of lessons, and heโd built something up out of everything he knew about you. But now, with you more present, it was as if the girl heโd drawn out in his mind was leaping off the page. A true, tangible person whose laughter reminded him of sunshine, and whose annoying habits made him smile.
The bell rang, interrupting Fangsโs thoughts.
While everyone packed away, Fangs came close to you and spoke softly in your ear, โItโs a shame about those few extra metres, Southside High missed out.โ And he took a risk. The moment you turned to face him, he winked and spun around to leave.
You stood there blinking for a while, wondering what the hell just happened. Your heart beat faster at the memory of his breath on your skin, the caramel sound of his voice in your ear. It was as if he was invading every chink in your armour just by getting close. But you needed to ignore it. You knew Fangs was prone to not-so-harmless flirting, and you couldnโt get yourself mixed up in that. You slung your bag over your shoulder and strode to your next class, pushing all thoughts of Fangs away.
As best you could, anyway.
