Regrann from @webuyblack - On July 11th 1925 Mattiwilda DobbsĀ was born. She was anĀ coloraturaĀ sopranoĀ opera singer, and one of the first black singers to enjoy a major international career inĀ opera. She was the first Black singer to perform atĀ La ScalaĀ in Italy, the first Black woman to receive a long-term performance contract at theĀ Metropolitan Opera, New York and the first Black singer to play a lead role at theĀ San Francisco Opera.
