so this movie was largely influential for me personally, because until i saw this movie, i also had a similar false pretense that powerful music and songwriting abilities were inherently linked with emotional trauma. or.. not necessarily trauma. but more so just... something larger than life. i think the reason why people like myself and domnhall gleeson’s character in the film have this notion is that good songwriting and the concept of being original and unique seems so difficult, and seeing someone like Frank write amazing, original music so effortlessly... it almost feels like they must have something in their lives that we dont. when in reality, you just need to open your mind to creativity. listen to little beats others have made. sing along to them, make up lyrics that are silly and fun. then refine them. next thing you know, youve written a song! anyways, this movie is great. this scene where michael fassbender’s character (the titular Frank) explains why he wears the mask is one of my favorite scenes in the movie.

not to mention the soundtrack is incredible. michael fassbender should be a vocalist.
