Welcome to new followers aboard the Stories of Qelt train!! \o/
A project based on this one-shot, that I decided to turn into a novel. The novel is quite different from the one-shot, as it has more characters, more plot, more worldbuilding, etc. It’s also an “own voice” novel (I think I can call it that?), and features a diverse cast of characters.
The story follows a nameless protagonist (that will take the name Lasair eventually, so I refer to her as Lasair) through various steps of her life, from childhood to adulthood, as she grows up and faces her own challenges, and meets with the whimsical Fæ that watches over her village - Áed. Strangers at first and with no reason to trust each other, they gradually grow close, brought together by their mutual loneliness and desire for freedom.
I’m also planning on writing a spin-off centered around two characters that appear in the novel, because I got attached to them. I’ve thought about several short stories revolving around various secondary characters, because once more, I got attached to them. Oops.
In have a masterpost in which I list all the things I’ve posted about SoQ so far, and I update it whenever I post something. I also have a FAQ that I’ll update soon (and probably with some parts of this post), for all your first questions!
Where can I read the novel?
On Patreon! For 1$, you can get excerpts of the chapters every month. Each chapter is divided in 3 excerpts. For 4$, you get the full chapters every month. I try to update at the beginning of each month, but sometimes life gets in the way, and I update towards the middle of the month TT If you’re a Patron, you also get early access to some additional content like occasional doodles of the characters or drabbles, or poems, etc. :D (sometimes it’s exclusive content because then I forget to post it on tumblr >_>”)
Why Patreon? For various reasons. First, because I still consider what I post there to be a “first draft” (no matter how much I work on and edit my chapters) so I feel more comfortable with a limited audience at first. Then, because I’m sure my Patrons see what I post, and get to read it. For example, on my tumblr blog I have nearly 4000 followers, but I generally feel like not even 5% of my followers see what I post. Also, being remunerated for my work pushes me to finish what I write. The insecure perfectionist I am could keep on editing her chapters forever, otherwise. Writing is a lot of work, it takes a lot of time and efforts, and it helps motivate me that I’m getting something from it. Admittedly, it also prevents the very dreaded “pls update” comments that all writers and fanfic writers have probably experienced at least once when posting something with several chapters.
I’ll also be posting some snippets of the novel from time to time on tumblr, little bits of chapters that I like, for my followers to see what’s going on!
Who are the main characters?
Lasair, the main character, that you follow from age 8 to 20, a free-spirited and impulsive, but kind and sensitive girl who loves the outside and dreams of traveling the world - a dream which is rather frowned upon, in her village. Master of threatening Áed with her sewing scissors. Lasair is a nickname she’ll get eventually: she is never named throughout the novel.
Áed, a Fæ of fire that watches over Lasair’s village and lives in the færie ring in the forest near the village. Terribly bored, his main distraction is using the villagers’ names to take them away. He’s a bit of an asshole, and doesn’t care about many things, but his malicious behavior hides a deep loneliness and despair from being trapped in the færie ring.
The babes in modern clothings (except usually Áed doesn’t have glasses), drawn by @annoyedlord
I’m going to start reblogging drabbles listed in the masterpost for the newcomers! Feel free to ask any question (but please read the FAQ before! :D), I love talking about my project and my babies!
I hope you’ll enjoy learning more about Stories of Qelt as much as I love working on it!
