A rogue named Splinter decides to join the clan! While the newcomers before her have taken on more clan-like names, Splinter decided that she likes her name as it is!

LONGEST one-parter moon I’ve done so far and to be honest, I could’ve made it easier on myself by splitting it up in parts, but I’d rather make myself suffer it seems 🥹!
Anywayyy, say hello to the newest member of the clan! Some of you might remember Splinter from Moon 5! Insane to think that she’s back after so long. I ended up changing her design to something more my liking.
Oh and Violetkit!! I just realized a year since he was born in-game that he and his mom’s name kinda match haha. Both are cool colors and violet is made after blue is mixed with red 🥺! Also his eyes are heather-blue, which is kinda purple and you know, Bluegale’s eyes are blue? You get what I’m saying 😭!
Moon 29 - Summer
Moon Events:
Bluegale announced that she’s expecting kits! She decides to move into the nursery right away and start early in preparation for her litter’s arrival.
It is Sootpaw's willingness to sit and listen that assures the other clans’ healers it's time to give her her name of Sootback at 17 moons old. Sootback thanks them graciously and tucks herself back down to listen to the next cat speak. She was honored for her grace. She still retains her compassionate nature.
After 8 long moons, Hawthornnight is well enough to leave the healers’ den and proceed with her new duties as a warrior. Despite the good recovery, the injury will forever remain as a scar and a daily reminder of Hawthornnight’s close encounter with death.

KITS! YIPPEE!! It’s been a year since the clan had kits around, so this is very much welcomed news! (As a reminder to everyone, at this point in the game, the clan is allowed to have kits with an unknown, second parent.)
And Sootback has graduated! Originally, I thought about including her naming ceremony, but I did not have the inspiration to write it, unfortunately 😭! All I can say, inspired by the event, the Lead Healers from other clans all come together and determine whether a healer apprentice is ready to become a full healer through a rigorous exam. The name granted to the new healer is either one suggested by their mentor or the Lead Healers Council!

I finished sketching out the entirety of Moon 34 and I’m currently working on Moon 35! Afterwards, I’ll sketch out Moon 36 before starting on the line art and coloring for Moon 34.

how do sapflow and icepaw feel about the Situation(tm) rn?
Both are unhappy by the situation. While Icepaw is mad on his sister’s behalf and would’ve definitely teamed up with Hawthorn to beat Loudpeak’s butt, Sapflow feels disappointed at his older son’s actions. He feels guilty knowing his death caused all of this, even though it’s all out of his control. He hopes Loudpeak would change for the better… not only for his and Sootback’s sake, but for the clan’s future as well…
I appreciate how icystar (? If she still follows being upset) doesn’t defend Loud as I’ve seen a lot of mothers with sons chosen for greatness do. Especially with prior instances with Sootback (ex: his outburst when Sap died and Icy getting scary prodding if that was REALLY all he wanted to say) . However also I know Loud is still a child in a position of power, but I also feel like the same can apply for Sootback! She’s a medicine cat heir and the only one aside from Mulberry (iirc?), he was her father just as his even if he wasn’t as direct as previous deputy and now-deputy relationship. She’s has to carry the guilt of her own fathers’ death and now her brother blames her for it over and over. # I love nuanced characters

Icystar is definitely still upset with Loudpeak. Imagine the cut scene happened off screen.
There’s a lot of reasons why she didn’t defend him, but I think the most important one being that she knows that no one is to blame for Sapflow’s death (much less her daughter). It’s just a part of life and she wants Loudpeak to understand that, but he’s still young and wants someone to blame for his father being gone sooner than he had imagined. For him, it’s easy to blame Sootback as in his mind, healers are meant to heal and she’s much more vulnerable than Mulberrystripe and easier to push around.
Icystar threatening to take away his inheritance is spurred on mostly by her leader instincts. In her mind, a leader isn’t one who just blames and fights with their clanmates, especially their own family, over issues that is no one’s fault. On top of that, with Sootback being the healer heir, she needs the two to work alongside each other or else the clan will be weakened from within and easy to be destroyed by enemies. That’s not something she wants not only as their mother, but also as a leader who wants to make sure her new clan thrives for generations to come.
Now, my poor Sootback 😭 oh my god, let me bestow upon you the very sad realization I made like a couple of months ago and it just made her character much more tragic— Sapflow, her own father, was the very first patient she would lose 😭😭it hurts whenever I think about it uwagh 😭Not only did she have to deal with that, but now Loudpeak is blaming her for his death? It makes it even worse!
