For the ask meme, I'm gonna give you a few: blood, dawn, teeth, impossible
This is so nice of you! I’m going to do a couple sentences each.
Blood:His shield was knocked away, and he felt burning pain race up his face from his chin to his nose. Blood poured down his neck and dripped into his mouth as he gasped.
Dawn:“Keep working on that wagon. I want to leave before dawn if we can manage it.”
Teeth (this was a hard choice. I had three good excerpts):The assigned squad found a couple of teeth and a finger bone, but everything else had been removed. The hole hadn’t been dug to bury bodies but to exhume them.
Impossible:“You’ve done impossible things, but never anything like this. Link,” she said, her voice soft, “please be careful.”
Like Crazy right? Whose gonna be the damnest of them both??? #godofwar ##marveluniverse #marvel #sonofwar #boxlord #thanos #marvelcomicsuniverse #cowryartsuniverse #reshare #reshared #artsofartists #art #artistsoninstagram #artgod #artists #graphics #digitalarts #digitalcomics #instagram_kids #insta #nigeriancomicstudios #nigeria #indienigerian #indienigeriancomics #cowrylegendsmedia #cowryartscomics #pics #wip #wips #doodle #doodlesofinstagram #comic #game #playstation #playstation4 (at Nigeria) https://www.instagram.com/p/BwEFc5oDMLa/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=lrtca1au6jf3
fanfic WIP game: Sword
I have 27 counts of this word in the Fort Zuna mission alone (and apparently 40 in temple of time because they keep talking about the master sword XD). I’m going to pick two or three excerpts that I like~
Sword:
They slipped through the gap and began to attack the spearmen. Captain Kohay leapt in, her sword flashing as she cut the skeletons down.
*****
Shields clashed. Spears darted into the Kharons’ ranks. Swords bit at their arms and their ankles.
*****
The stalfos swung its sword through the air experimentally, as if learning the weight of it. Or perhaps remembering. Then it charged.
*****
(adding one more from Temple of Time)
“It might be too late to ask this now, but are we sure this is our only option? Hylia hasn’t called for a champion to retrieve the master sword. To go in and retrieve it ourselves is… a drastic decision. And a dangerous one.”
I don’t think I ever mentioned--and I should with this meme on my blog--that Son of War is basically an entirely new Legend of Zelda adventure. New “game,” familiar characters, lots of references to past games and recycled concepts, new people and places, fighting, monsters, heroes, and even a puzzle solving dungeon. But it’s a story, so I get to write lots of character development and focus on relationships and stuff, too.

Birthday, tenderly, reverence
Hoo boy. I’m not sure if I’ve used those ones. Let’s see.
*****Aha, found the word “birthday” in a scrapped royal ball scene:
Ganon’s head lifted as he remembered something. “I’m sorry. I forgot to wish you a happy birthday, your highness.” He seemed to gather himself before he said, “May Hylia bless you with wisdom, courage, and strength. And all of Hateno extends its sincerest hope that your reign will be one of peace and bounty.”
*****
I found “tenderly,” but only in my merstory. I’ll share an excerpt anyways:
Bestla looked up. Her expression was dark, but she quickly tried to hide it. “I’m a mother; it’s my lot to worry for my children. What you’ve foreseen is hardly good news. At best, Sigrid is in great danger, and at worst…”
Hetha sat down on the bench beside Bestla. “I am sorry my reading upset you. You must understand that I did not decide Sigrid’s fate. I only looked to the future to see what it already held. What will be will be.”
“I know. I would never blame you. You honor us with your friendship.” Bestla laid a hand tenderly on Hetha’s.
*****
Could not find “reverence,” so how about a bit of behind the scenes world building instead?
Reverence is high esteem or admiration for someone or something. There is no one Link Tempra holds in higher reverence than Queen Regnant Marta and her husband, King Consort Daltus. He met them when he first joined the military. Admired them from afar and took delight in doing his duty as a soldier because a part of him knew this was the best way he could serve them. As he rose through the ranks in the midst of the Wasteland War, he grew closer to them. Spoke with them and saw them more. In time, although he fought it with all his might, his reverence has grown into something else that he knows he cannot voice aloud.
LoZ word count:
It’s been a while since I made myself do this so here goes:
Prologue is: 25,869 words
This includes about five chapters’ worth of content. It covers the siege and rescue of Fort Zuna by Major Link Tempra and his company of soldiers.
The recovery of the master sword by General Tempra and Queen Marta is: 5,663 words
Next is the final battle of the Wasteland War, then a jump forward in time and a domestic scene (the battle is set as a memory turned night terror) the count is: 2,545 words
Following that is a flashback to the first anniversary of the war’s end. So far, the word count is: 4,641 words
So not counting failed scenes and scraps, which includes a royal ball that might get recycled into the story, Son of War is now 38,718 words long. (For posterity’s sake, the ball is a little over 2k words as well, so that’s 40k total if I end up using it). That’s not counting all the editing I have to do to. This has taken over a year now I think, and it’s only just starting to get out of the prologue into the parts of the story I wanted to write, but I’m really proud of what I’ve got. Lots of world-building, lots of research, lots of good practice and experience. Sucks not talking about it at length to everyone I know and their mother, but I think denying myself the instant gratification is doing good things for my commitment to actually writing this story.
another sonofwar mythology note:
I originally wanted there to be the three goddesses who made the world, and then they rested and became Hylia. I’m ditching that. It feels a little too... generic? monotheistic? More importantly, it feels like it robs all four characters of their importance. Plus, it makes more sense since Hylia is the goddess of Hyrule, but I’m including all these other countries. So I’ve decided pretty much every country agrees on the primordial goddesses if only because there’s too much evidence. literally examples of their power are everywhere (including the temple of time where I am right now writing the retrieval of the master sword, and the main chamber includes three gargantuan statues of the goddesses looking down on the sword, and it is their voices who speak to whoever comes for it). But then after the goddesses came new/smaller/more intimate deities who took different domains to care for. Hylia is one of the stronger ones who has a direct connection to the sword, or perhaps to heroes meant to wield it. Miracles, destiny, and good fortune are all associated with her will. Her love of her domain and the creatures living within it. She also fought off chaos (Demise?) so she’s depicted as the first example of the hero’s spirit and is an example to warriors. Fight, but never to destroy. Fight in the name of love. I need to find out if Lorin is the goddess of Lorule. I saw the name in some fanart, but I don’t know if it’s a fan name or not. I might ask the person I saw if I can use it, though, because I like the idea of a goddess who works in subtle ways and whose virtues differ from the Hyrulean Triforce. Maybe the two goddesses draw from the same primordial power differently or interpret the power differently. So then Queen Hilda can display different virtues, and her people can value different virtues in people. Like cunning, perseverance, and perhaps loyalty, which might be seen as contradictory but also seems to suit Hilda and Ravio?
This all suits the existence of Malanya much better, since he naturally has dominion over horses and has sort of adopted or been adopted by the Malabi people. The idea that he’s a sibling alongside all these other entities.
