A Feel Good Fairytale
Sabriel's death is one of the most painful scenes in the whole series. It hurts a lot and, at least for me, emphasizes exactly how cruel a man The Professor is. He had a choice not to kill Sabriel. He was perfectly aware of his actions. Still, he decided to kill a Titan that was not even remotely a threat to him. Because let's face it, Sabriel was ready to protect Sophie to her last breath but at 2% energy not even someone as dedicated as Sabriel would be able to protect Sophie much.
Seeing Sabriel's amulet turn into dust and disappear, seemingly forever, was a lot for us to deal... and a huge opportunity for Sophie's character growth.
At the beginning of the second season we could see the glimpses of it. Sophie does not feel herself without Sabriel. Atop of her own feelings about Sabriel's death, she is also struck by her own insecurities. Without her Titan friend at her side, Sophie suddenly feels weak and useless. For such a self-confident character it was a stark change. It reminded us again that actions have consequences. So, instead of sticking to it, making the point about coping with grief, they decided to bring Sabriel back... but since she could not be back just like that, they excused it with a quickly coined up term - powerbonding.
Perhaps they had been planning powerbonding for a long time and the reason its introduction felt so rushed was the lack of time. Perhaps it really could have been handled better. Still, excusing Sabriel's death away with a powerbonding was a very cheap move that undermines just about everything. Sophie is no longer "weak", no longer "sad" and she has her strongest asset back so there is no need for vulnerability and character development anymore. Instead, we can focus on cool action scenes the way the show used to be! It will be good, they enticed us.
Except, as much as I felt happy for Sophie having Sabriel back, it simply did not feel right. In the fourth episode of the first season Zhalia tells Peter "This isn't some feel good fairytale. Sometimes we lose". In the third episode of the second season they retconned the very foundation on which the show had been built.
The best part? Dante also lost a Titan friend who was very close to him. Except I know for sure that Dante will not get this Titan back. And no, it is not because the chances for the third season are basically nonexistent now. And no, it is not because Legion's absorption works ~differently~. If you have enough script power, you can retcon or alter just about anything. It all boils down to the fact that Dante is an adult man who would not take Solwing's loss as hard as Sophie does Sabriel's, that his grief would not make him into a wimp and lady in distress that could bore the target audience away... but, essentially, it all boils down to the fact that Dante Vale is not Lok's girlfriend. He is just this cool adult mentor who passes the torch to him and retires to obscurity... and it sucks, guys.
Here it is - my own clay Solwing 🦅✨💛
He had a hard history. First I made the first Solwing, I finished it once in the winter and happily sent to the furnace. But, unfortunately, in the furnace Solwing suffered the fate of Solwing in the second season of the series... It was torn into small pieces, it exploded. It was because I hadn't made little holes for air in it, and it was hollow inside. I think the physics I hate finally revenge at me... Remember, please, ALWAYS make holes for air outlet in large, hollow inside, clay products, and do not repeat my mistakes!
And after that I tried to glue Solwing to pieces, but I did not succeed. However, then the other girl from the group did it! And I was offered to cover the remaining splits with sculptural plasticine and cover the product with silver. But I decided I didn't want to. And still glued pieces of Solwing looked terrible.
So I decided to make it anew! And this time I made literally a hundred holes for air. And he survived in the furnace!!! The burning was successful, and now I've finished painting it.
My Solwing is risen!!!
And I hope that with Dante's Solwing same thing's gonna happen😉
But really, why doesn’t it seem more traumatic?? (Short Huntik Rant)
So, as we know after season 2, Solwing is kinda...gone away. He’s released to Huntik after the frankenTitan is defeated, but as far as we know, he can’t return to Dante through his amulet (unless he got some glowy hand stuff like Sophie did) and their Bond is broken.
From what I remember, Dante didn’t seem all that traumatized by the Bond being broken. He just kinda seems mildly distressed about everyone being beaten up (MILDLY) and says a solemn “goodbye old friend” thing and kinda just drives off.
I know Titans can be ‘transferred’ between two Seekers who are alike. But we’ve never seen a long time Bonded Titan transfer. Solwing was Dante’s first Titan. They were pretty close. And from the types of relationships we see between Seekers like Dante and Zhalia, who treat their Titans more like family than just tools and means to an end, you’d think Dante would be a LITTLE more impacted by the loss of Solwing.
Does he even MENTION Solwing again? At ALL?
If I write about this thing I swear I’mma load it up with trauma. Mental distress, loss of someone that literally shares some brain space and thought waves with you, it would leave anyone shaken at the very least. Dante’s our calm semi-stoic leader, but he’s got feelings. We know he likes to be the little spoon sometimes. He’s human and a Seeker.
Also, Solwing was a bit of a scamp. I’m pretty sure he and Gareon got along quite well.

In process
I still hope that Solwing will return to Dante as the powerbonded Titan or something. It was so heartbreaking, when Legion absorbed him. I want Solwing baaack. :'(
Zhalia or Huntik team gave Dante amulet of Solwing as a birthday present.
