She’d barely spoken to him at this point, but she could already grasp how Nagyunn thinks better than Zius, who’d been actively trying to puzzle him out for a while now. And the thing is, she’s right. Nagyunn is like that.

So that got me thinking about how she could understand Nagyunn so accurately and so fast, something even highly intelligent characters like Zius have had a difficult time doing. Then I thought about how she said she, “knows people like that well,” and it hit me.

Who else does Solvas know who acts this way? Tink.

Nagyunn reminds Solvas of Tink.

And honestly, Nagyunn IS pretty similar to Tink: they’re both reticent around others but devoted to the people they do let in, they’re both caring brothers, they’re both self-sacrificial, kind-hearted, willing to play the villain if it protects someone else, and most notably, they both try to shoulder their burdens alone.

Because even though Nagyunn does recruit allies he rarely lets them in on the full scope of what’s going on, and whenever his strategies involve someone undertaking a lot of danger, it’s always himself he puts in that dangerous role despite being no good in a fight. Nagyunn isn’t willing to sacrifice any of his comrades, but he is willing to sacrifice himself, which is the same mindset that contributed to the friction in Solvas and Tink’s relationship, and explains why she initially appeared to dislike Nagyunn.
