After the wolf attack the fact that Vans face has healthier together is a remarkable thing. However…
For the rest of their life Van has issues chewing, their jaw also dislocates all the time.
Their face is not the only place they have scares they have some big claw marks on the top of their shoulders and shoulder blade. They are all raised and didn’t heal as well as the ones on Vans face.
Vans eye… In the wolf attack Van’s retina detached and never healed well. They now have only 50% vision in that eye.
Van thought their eye would heal but over the months post attack they realised that was not going to happen (queue a break down in the realisation that they were “broken”. Also queue Tai finding them and comforting Van saying they were beautiful and handsome etc)
When Van is having nightmares Tai traces patterns around their scars to calm them.
Nat thinks Van looks and I quote “fucking sick dude”
In the summer months in the wilderness it took Van a while to go shirtless (sports bra only or not just vibe it) it wasn’t until Tai started drooling over Vans shoulder muscles that they had the confidence.
Back in society Van wishes she could go back to the wilderness where nobody would stare at her because of her scars.
In the hospital after they were rescued Van was kept in for long for reconstructive surgery on their jaw. All they ended up doing was removing some scar tissue but nothing that helped.
Tai likes to kiss all of Van’s scars obvi.
Van wears glasses with different prescriptions help their vision.
Although 50% blind bright sunlight really affect their eye so they often are wearing sunglasses.
(Stepparent Van)
Van allows Sammy to draw with felt tips around their scars to make “Sammy tattoos” , one time he accidentally used sharpies… Tai couldn’t stop laughing at the fact that Van has a 6 year olds version of a dragon on their face that wouldn’t come off.

Thank you for asking my about Tai 😭😭😭Typed this on my notes app so format is all janky
3. Least favorite canon thing about this character?
Van is such a dick to Misty and won’t let up. It makes sense that Van is a bully, especially to Misty, but it really annoys me. Be nice to her! She has so much in common with you, you ass!
Tai viewing Sammy as an afterthought. I know this is mostly on the writers but it’s so weird and troublesome to see Tai barely speak or talk about Sammy after he’s taken away and has never felt right to me. I really don’t think it could be explained that well in a Trauma Response™️. It just is a casualty of the lazy writing they give Tai.
12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?
Taissa’s parents aren’t (overtly) homophobic and would be accepting. Tai’s closeting comes from trauma about her grandma’s death coupled with her perfectionism. Her perfectionism is instilled into her heavily by her mother who made sure to educate her children on how much harder they have to work to get half as far, whereas her dad is the more easygoing parent (people really like to write him as strict and I just don’t see that) Tai’s parents are probably very healthy parents (as Boomers can be).
Heavy one for Van, get ready. I think someone on Van’s dad’s side of the family, an uncle or a grandfather, was sexually inappropriate with Van as a child. Van has no memory. Vicky found out about it, but couldn’t do anything about it (legal shit around this thing is very difficult for a woman on the lower end of the income spectrum) so told Dad (who sided with family member) to leave. Vicky feels guilt and this is why she drinks. Exhausted with single parenting and carrying a secret resentment for her child. Van doesn’t remember the trauma and has no idea why dad left.
19. How about a relationship they have in canon that you don't like?
I’m flipping this on its head because they rarely show these two having a relationship with anyone else so I will say a relationship I dislike because it’s not enough.
Van - Natalie, either timeline. The whole fandom agrees that these two would be thick as thieves. They have so much chemistry together and the show gives us NOTHING. (I’m not complaining because I love this relationship but) they give Tai and Nat more of a relationship than Van and Nat. I just want some more gifs of these two 😭
Taissa - this isn’t just because of you I promise (though it’s helped) Lottie! I want a deep dive into Tai and Lottie. We got the crumbs of their bond in the locker room (hello butt slap and mirror scene). But I would love to know what their dynamic is especially as a parallel to VanNat. Also, they’re the two best players on the team, get into the soccer of it all!
marinat fuckass slow dancing to the tune of forever young
okay so i KNOW this isn't what you had in mind, but i was really sick in january and my mom told me she used to sing this to me when i was sick as a baby so that was the inspiration
(i have another version in the works that is probably more what you were thinking of but i couldn't decided lol might post it eventually). anyways, barely proofread this one so good luck to us all.
send me more song recs for marinat drabbles!! 🙏
Mari looks at her with wide eyes and utters a phrase Nat has never hear her say before: "This was a mistake."
The worst part is Nat can't disagree. There was so much discussion leading up to this point, going back and forth weighing the pros and cons of pursuing this together. All for nothing, apparently.
"I can't do this anymore," Mari says, voice cracking.
Nat nods. She understands.
Mari holds out the wailing potato that is Callie Shipman-Taylor as her own lip trembles. Reluctantly, Nat accepts the six-month old into her arms.
Shauna neglected to tell them the baby had colic. Or was teething. Or was kind of a tiny bitch.
"What time is it?" Mari asks with a weariness usually worn by a harried mother of seven.
Glancing at the clock on the stove in Shauna and Jackie's kitchen, Nat groans internally.
"4:15," she responds. Mari groans for real. Callie continues to wail in her ear.
"Why did Shauna's stupid dad have to get married for a third time?" Mari asks for the sixth time in the past hour. Nat chooses not to answer, instead offering the baby a soother that is promptly spat to the floor.
"And why," Mari continues, not requiring any input on her tirade, "is Lottie in fucking France?"
Nat wonders if the fire station would take Callie temporarily.
"If Laura Lee were actually a godly woman she would have cancelled her plans this weekend to care for a child," Mari says.
"She's volunteering to feed the homeless, Mar," Nat interjects, now trying a bounce and sway maneuver. It works just as well as everything else they've tried—not at all.
"And Tai—"
"It was us or the Taylors." Nat doesn't have it in her to be annoyed anymore. Two hours into their babysitting stint and she'd already ascended to a plane of calm acceptance. "You know how Jackie is about her mom and the baby."
For once today, Mari doesn't have a response. Instead, she kicks the empty Bumbo into the living room with a frustrated yell. She returns to look at Callie over Nat's shoulder.
"Has your mom been talking shit about me? Is that why you don't like me?" She asks, dead serious.
Nat rolls her eyes. "She's a baby."
"Shauna's baby. Normal babies love me, Nat," Mari argues. She can't deny that she has a point—all of Mari's cousins' kids adore her and her seemingly magic touch. "Callie, you can be honest."
Callie wails harder.
Nat isn't terrible with kids—her punk edge usually endears school-agers and she's enjoyed being the cool aunt for Mari's extended family. But babies? Babies are a mystery to her and she's usually happy to leave them to her girlfriend.
Not only is she an only child, but her mom wasn't exactly a paragon of motherhood. Nat can count on one hand the number of times Vera Scatorccio actually stepped into her role as a parent and it's not lost on her that most of those times came when her dad left.
When she was 12 she came down with strep throat. Her dad had been gone for six weeks already and Vera had no one else to channel her energy into, so Nat got the full experience of having someone care for her while she was home from school. She was laying across the couch with her head in her mom's lap, enjoying the new comfort of being wrapped in a blanket with her mom rubbing up and down her arm soothingly when she began to hum.
Nat recognized the song and nuzzled deeper into her mom's leg.
"I used to sing this to you, you know," Vera told her, pausing the melody, "right there in the kitchen. You were such a sickly little baby. I'd turn the faucet on and sing and we'd dance until you fell asleep. It was the only thing that calmed you down."
She said it with such an unearned pride in her voice, before softly singing the words to Forever Young and tucking Nat's hair behind her ears as she dozed off. Nat's dad returned two days later.
Callie's cries snap her back to the present.
"Turn on the faucet," she instructs. Mari blinks at her, taken aback but turns the tap. The white noise of the water draws Callie's attention and softens the tears, but the baby is determined to continue fuss.
Swaying back and forth with more intention, Nat takes a page out of her mom's book and begins to sing. It takes a few bars, but Callie finally, finally rests her head on Nat's shoulder, her cries petering out into a whimper and then into nothing.
She feels Mari slip her arms around her waist behind them, resting her chin on Nat's other shoulder and swaying together. Peace at last.
"You did it," Mari whispers in awe. "You got the baby to calm down."
"Yeah," she responds, letting a grin break out on her face. "Both of them."
There's a pause.
"When they get home tomorrow morning, I will kill you," Mari promises in her ear. Nat desperately tries to stifle a laugh to not wake Callie, who has finally fallen asleep in her arms.
if you're still doing ask game: 1, 9, and 10 about nat (yellowjackets)
1. Why do you like or dislike this character?
There are so many things I like about nat, and a lot of it comes down to all the culminating contradictions that make up her character, and that she forces on herself as a survival mechanism. she's a social outsider but appointed leader. she's the cool alt girl who laughs freely and isn't afraid of emotional confrontation. she vocally opposes the concept of the wilderness and then talks to it when she's alone. she wants to love and be loved, and she gives and gives in so many ways, partly because of a desire to provide and partly as a constant sort of penance that she will pay as long as she's alive. and it's something that was exacerbated by the wilderness but def didn't start there. im not catholic but catholic guilt is something very #relatable to me. she also has SUCH interesting dynamics w everyone in the team
9. Could you be roommates with this character?
This is so fun! I think so, nat seems chill. we're both into similar music and i can imagine playing mixtapes and hanging out. post-crash nat maybe not lol but that's more because i don't think she'd want that very much
10. Could you be best friends with this character?
In canon? no. but that's because i don't feel like nat would allow that. i don't think she ever had a best friend because she never let people in enough for it to become that. you could make an argument for travis but as of now, i feel like whatever relationship they had was so quick and volatile and full of romantic/sexual tension aside from the friendship that i hesitate to call them best friends. and he wasn't as open as she was to it. you could also argue that kevyn tan was her best friend but while i think they were genuinely good friends, there's that aspect of unrequited romantic feelings on his end + how adult nat responds to him that makes me feel like he thought they were closer than they were. and whatever she has with the yjs during and post crash is some Secret Third Thing that complicates the possibilities of any other relationship outside the group. it's one of the tragedies of natalie scatorccio. also i wasn't half as cool as her in highschool and very shy lmao - i probably would be with the nerds in an entirely different outsider social circle. BUT if we got to talking somehow, hey maybe
idk this is random but your writing is great and i like your unhinged nat memes. keep up the good work, soldier. -ollies out of your askbox and back into outer space-
thank u omg i love crown and the fucking fic you wrote about nat in those fuck ass boxers.............. giving them a whole backstory 10/10 beautiful work chefs kiss
also thank u........... my pinterest is lowkey fucked up cus the 'memes' board is double the size of any other board i have

how we feeling about van?? how we feeling about the plane scene?? how we feeling about young van implying that this death accomplished something??
i am observing the traditional 5 days of mourning. i will miss lauren ambrose as van. i feel like this season she really really fucking shined amongst the adult cast for me, and she REALLY felt settled into the role as opposed to season 2 where i felt like she was still getting a handle on van's personality.
i liked the plane scene! i love how it felt tailed specifically for van. i love how it was the plane but it was also a movie theater and i loved than van got a chance to watch her final moments. if anything i think a callback to the burning plane would have been interesting but i think that having teen van be that guiding force for adult van, reassuring her, telling her she did everything she could, felt very satisfying to me.
with a show like yelloejackets (that i love to the point of undontional delusion) i am always torn between wanting to keep these characters for as long as humanly possible and also KNOWING that everyone is doomed in the end. Van was never even supposed to make it to the adult timeline so having what we got i feel very grateful. and i preferred having vn stick to her morals through the entirety of her arc this season ("i cant live like that" vs trying to give into the temptation of violence but ultimately knowing she cant) than seeing her abandon that kindness and lose what makes her van. and this is so much better than just seeing ehr die in a hospital bed. im glad she got her final hero moment and saved tai.
im also really glad because i was worried the writers were planning on having tai kill herself to sacrifce her life for van and ive never been happier for a fridging to occur in the opposite direction
i haven't unfollowed you because you blog real good and also you kind of remind me of the little fire mote from the neopets playing card game (i don't know why, but they are cute).
sending good vibes, bru!
omg i wasnt sure what that was so i had to look it up is this it??? sdfjkjfkd
if thats it i absolutely love it omg<3 thank u sm im so glad you havent unfollowed me ily<3 sending good vibes right back to u alwaysss
new ask game: instead of telling me why you followed me, why haven’t you unfollowed me?
Natalie watched her humdrum little team of misfits stumble on the cones they were attempting to weave through.
Fuck, they don’t even have a ball yet and they’re already struggling. Natalie thought as she lit a cigarette. I have so much fucking work to do.
“Hey, Lady!” The snotty blonde girl scolded, “You can’t smoke.”
Natalie smiled her most saccharine smile and gazed at the girl over her sunglasses. The kid had neatly clipped curled hair. And big sparkling eyes. Jackie Taylor, reincarnated.
She mumbled around her cigarette, “What’s your name?”
“Brynnderleigh” She answered, dramatically waving away imaginary smoke from her face. Natalie was 10 feet away from the kid.
Dear fucking god. Natalie had to force herself not to grimace. “Can I call you Brynn?”
“My parents like my full name.”
I bet they do. It sucks. “Well, Brynn. They’re not here. And look around.” Natalie gestured to the meager park where they were practicing. “We’re totally outside. So don’t worry about the smoke, mmkay?”
“It’s a public park. It’s not allowed.” The girl crossed her hands over her chest.
What a little busybody, fucking ay. “Tell you what; do you wanna be team Captain?”
The girl’s demeanor immediately switched. “Yeah!”
Natalie handed the kid the keys to her Porsche. “Then be a good sport and go get me another pack of cigs out of my passenger seat, capisce?”
The blonde beamed, “You got it, Coach!”
Natalie smiled as the kid loped to the car. “Little fucking kiss-ass,” she muttered with a grin.
