you and toji as first-time parents โห โโถ .
when your two-person residence was due to become a three, you werenโt sure what to do with yourself. you and toji had planned this, but all the information you thought came to mothers naturallyโฆwell, it never did. you had no idea how to look after one. some days, you tried to be productive and prepare by watching nanny shows made for disciplining naughty kids, until toji leaned in and kissed your rounded belly, reminding you that your child wasnโt even born yet.
you were giggling more than you were learning, anyway.
however, all your worries vanished when megumi was born โ he mustโve been the most adorable little boy, and you felt beyond blessed to be able to hold him in your arms, seeing him coo and hold up his hands to grasp at nothing. even as a newborn, with his full head of dark, uneven hair and sharp eyes, he resembled his father.
โnah, heโs got your faceโ, tojiโd say, one of his lazy smiles plastered on his face as you both held your son. โi see it.โ
everything fell into a routine after the birth. it was fine with a newborn. a diaper change, breastfeeding, another nap. but obviously, a baby grows, and their needs get more complex.
the problem was that it didnโt matter how many hours of research you did or how many parenting books you bought; you both seemed to be hopeless when it came to hands-on experience.
โthere he goes, cryinโ again.โ toji shot you a tired look, already sleep deprived from the amount of missed bedtimes, trying to stay awake for little megumi. you swore you could see the dark circles actively materialising under his eyes. it was now five in the morning, and you were both sprawled over the couch: you held yet another help book in your hands, while he held the wailing baby, patting his back softly to try ease whatever his problem was. โthe fuck do i do now?โ
โfirstly, you can mind your language in front of our son.โ you said, earning a chuckle from your husband as you sat up, holding your arms out. โgive him here, babe.โ
โnow hold on. he doesnโt even understand anything. watch,โ toji smirked, his hands grabbing under megumiโs arms so heโd be facing him directly, turning away from you. โfuck fuck fuck shit shit shit bitch fuck shitโโ
โtoji, oh my goodness. stop it.โ you sighed, trying to reach for your baby, weakly grabbing at tojiโs forearm. โseriously.โ
he grinned, glancing at you and holding the now surprisingly quiet megumi out of reach. โsโnot funny sweetheart, this isnโt a laughinโ matter. look, even megumiโs not amused.โ
you smacked his arm gently, trying to stop yourself from smiling, but failed and let a laugh slip. an exaggerated groan followed. โugh, enough. i was trying to set a good example!โ
โfor this pipsqueak?โ he held megumi close to his chest again, taking his little hand to make him wave at you. โi bet he doesnโt even know he exists.โ
his statement was unfortunately proven right, with megumi babbling and getting all wide-eyed over seeing his own hand in the air.
โno, toji, i meant for you. at your big age.โ
โwell heโs not crying anymore. that means it worked.โ
megumi clenched and unclenched his chubby hands, reaching for you, kicking his legs against tojiโs abdomen. this had you immediately reacting, letting his hand wrap around your finger. you decided that this was what they called that motherly feeling. wanting your flesh to be close to you at all times. even if the flesh drools half the time. and vomits on all your favourite shirts.
โoh, gumi, donโt mind daddy.โ you fawned over your creation, softly pressing your lips to his cheek, giving him two airy kisses before he started gurgling again. a bad sign of tears. โplease- please no.โ
โhow does this little thing store so much damn water?โ tojiโs brows furrowed as you took megumi from his hands. the gurgles were slowly growing into howls.
โheโs going all red.โ you shushed him with the sway of your arms. โexactly like you.โ
โi donโt โgo redโ, and iโve never cried in my life.โ
โi saw you wipe your tears when megumi was born, toji.โ you stifled a laugh, and megumi quietened, as if waiting to hear what youโd say. โdid you hear that, gumi? daddy cried when you were born. in the corner. in fact, he was so happy, and he spent hours staring at your little cot.โ
you stood up, walking to the bedroom, continuing to speak in that soft voice as your babyโs eyes started to close. โand he wanted to carry you everywhere himself. still does.โ
toji joined your side as you gently placed your son in his bed.
โexposing me in front of the baby?โ he tilted his head, nearly blocking the entire door frame as he leaned against it. โi think i deserve compensation for that.โ
โwhat kind of compensation?โ you crossed your arms, whispering.
โa kiss in exchange for my secret.โ
โright. as if heโll remember.โ you giggled, but threw your arms around his neck as he closed the door behind you. โbut i guess you deserve it for being the best dad ever.โ
his hands settled on your hips as you both swayed naturally, his brows raising and the familiar smirk returning to his face.
โand the best husband?โ
โโฆand the best husband.โ
