Quick question - was anyone relying on my flickr page for store sale updates? I've been thinking I should use it more as an "archive" than anything else, now.
Uploading sale posters in there just feels odd.
Mask Monday
Alrighty, enough of this unplanned hiatus, time to get back to work. Brickfair Viriginia is in two days! I’ve been working to get stuff painted up to sell there, so I’ve got a bit of backlog to post today. I’ll be in the Bionicle section taking commissions (and giving the traditional dollar discount to anyone with a brick badge). Also be sure to check out Socketball Masks, who does amazing casts, and Red Star Games, who have tons of great 3D prints.
This Ignika is actually one of Socketball’s cast, you can see here the fidelity is fantastic. He can also do mottling and glow in the dark stuff that I can’t even dream of. Speaking of glow in the dark...
After experimenting for a while with this Lit pigment, I’ve found it really only works for small details, I really wanted to make entire patches that glowed and glowing visors, but it looks like I’ll have to keep looking for a different way to do so. On the upside this pigment is super bright, and only needs a couple seconds of charging to get a good glow
Fooling around with my new tablet. Forms on the Stand weren’t very defined because I haven’t built a moc for the maskmaker character yet.
Tahu Nuva
I decided to take a picture of Tahu Nuva at the beach. Credit goes to @socketballmasks for the silver Hau Nuva. He did a pretty good job with it and I’m happy with how it turned out. Here’s the flickr link: https://flic.kr/p/275srLg

Mask Monday
Oof, been a while, hasn’t it? Apologies for the lack of updates lately, I’ve been adjusting to working full time and looking for an apartment. I might go dark again at the end of the month while I’m moving as well.
I also got a hold of a couple of @socketballmasks metal kanohi experiments, and did some experimenting of my own on one of them to see how well they could be polished up.
Conclusion: definitely possible to get it smooth, but it takes quite a bit of work. I expect that will go way down with future casts though.
You’ll notice that the sheen does actually get duller compared to an un-sanded mask. I’m not sure what causes that, but I am considering picking up some polish to see if that helps. I’m also going to get some finer grit sandpaper to get it a bit smoother, as right now the 600 grit is still leaving obvious marks.
Papa Duplo’s A.B.S. V.3.0 is complete! This is the version I displayed at Brickfair VA 2018. You can see this also on Flickr or Brickshelf.
Socketball
So today I decided to invent a fun game to motivate my family to fold socks called socketball: You fold the socks and throw them into a laundry basket and you get a certain number of points depending on what kind of sock (half socks, 1 point, colored socks, 2 points, white socks, 3 points) you make into the basket. Whoever scored the most points would get a prize, and for today the prize was you got a free phone (we're upgrading). Anyway, my mom was winning and then my sister got a gigantic lead, and the conversation proceeds as follows
Sister: AH-HA! In your FACE!
Mom: Nuh-uh I can still catch up!
Sister: There's no way! I just smoked you over a hundred points!
Mom: Well it doesn't matter because I'm going to win anyways.
Me: Oh yeah? How do you figure that?
Mom: Because I'm sleeping with the judge!
