Its funny to me that Su Muyu's character design is so consistent. Handome longhaired man with umbrella. Meanwhile, Su Changhe have different depiction based on what period of his life. Its like Su Muyu is a person who will stay true to his heart no matter what while Su Changhe will change for things he want to protect or achieve.
I want to believe the reason why Su Muyu look a little terrifying in SNGX donghua and SNBM donghua is because of Xiao Se and Baili Dongjun's biased perspective. Let's all remember that these kids MC only know Dark River as assassins organization and never interacted with any Dark River member so of course he will look mysterious from their perspective. Its a good decision too for storytelling because they want the audience to figure out themselves wthether this character is a good or bad person. Tales of Dark River donghua Su Muyu on other hand is the most emotional among them because at this point we know he's a good person and wish to know more about his story. You thought Gong Jun's portrayal of Su Muyu will follow Tales of Dark River version. Nope, its actually a mix of both. He's wooden and can be emotional. I would like to believe its a homage to first Su Muyu, Jiang Zhenhao. The actor who also play Su Muyu's dad in Blood River.
As for Su Changhe, he has different version of himself based on period of his life. SNBM/DY and BR/TODR are both ambitious playful youth. He didn't take killing seriously and think its just a job. TBOY and SNGX versions are his more ruthless version because you know he's the antagonist from our MC's perspective(Xiao Se) but I say TBOY Su Changhe is still soft at times like BR Su Changhe when they are in front of Su Muyu. Honestly, Su Changhe is already ruthless in his youth era but its more like a seed back then. His ruthless is building up. Its not like it didn't exist. Its there but it slowly blooming.
People might prefer to be stuck in one version but I think its very important to see your favorite character from different perspective if you truly like the character. SNGX/SNBM is probably my favorite Su Muyu because of his character design and subtle character acting but I can still enjoy what the other Su Muyu can offer to the character even if its not perfect. Its like do you know Zhou Zishu from Word of Honor? In the novel, he has two versions. In Qi Ye, from Jing Beiyuan's perspective, he finds Zhou Zishu a little good looking but someone who don't stand out or forgettable because you see Jing Beiyuan is the most beautiful person in Qi Ye, meaning more handsome than Zhou Zishu so its understandable that's how he see Zhou Zishu. In Tian Ya Ke, from Wen Kexing's perspective, Zhou Zishu is somehow very good looking from Wen Kexing's perspective(Guy is in love okay so he's biased). No matter how low profile Zhou Zishu pretend to be, Wen Kexing can find him. In Liang Jiuxiao's perspective, he's a strict older brother but can be kind who's probably closer to his Word of Honor version. After all, WOH Wen Kexing is Zhou Zishu's shidi so it make sense why WOH Zhou Zishu is that soft because that's him around Jiuxiao. So which one do you believe? Who is the real him? Instead of excluding some side of them, by combining all of that, he will become a multifaceted character if you see him in bigger picture.
