There was no photography allowed, but the @natgalleriessco exhibition on British Realist painting in the 1920s and 1930s is exceptional- and this piece was a clear highlight. Gerald Leslie Brockhurst's By the Hills from 1939 depicts one of the periods most celebrated debutantes. He really captures her refinement and dignify! When it was first shown there were rumours that her lips were painted with real lipstick.
