The whole point of the story was that our OC has been setting her standards too low – and she needed something to help her break out of her rut and realize she can take risks and demand more for herself. Her one night stand with Jimin was exactly the kind of thing she needed to start to rebound from a bad relationship.
I like to think that she went home feeling sexy and confident after her fling. She immediately got on line and started dating a bunch of different guys, but no longer felt like she needed to accommodate some random guy in the quest to find a boyfriend. When a date didn’t work out, she wasn’t worried – there’s always another guy around the corner. If she felt sexually attracted to someone, she would have sex without trying to force herself to feel something emotionally for the person. Something that she never would allow herself to do before Jimin. It’s not like she went home and started screwing everyone in sight, but she now gave herself permission to do things just because she wanted to do them in the moment without worrying about finding a deeper meaning in everything.
This sense of freedom also gave her the courage to find a new job. She used her experience working in sales in the industrial sector to get a job selling safety and environmental control technology to the oil and gas industry. She had to move to Houston, but she’s making a lot more money than she used to and the change of environment was good for her. She doesn’t travel as frequently, but when she does travel she still has to go out to the middle of nowhere. Sometimes she gets to travel internationally – even if it is to visit an oil field in Kazakhstan. She likes how worldly she sounds when attending dinner parties.
Eventually she met a guy there who she thinks might be “the one”. He teaches high school math, plays the guitar, volunteers at a soup kitchen and likes to go scuba diving. He’s teaching her how to dive and they have plans to go to Cozumel over his spring break vacation.
She doesn’t often think of that night with Jimin, but every once in a while she remembers him and feels grateful because that was the turning point in her life and attributes her current happiness to meeting him.
Meanwhile, Jimin continues to be exactly what he was when they met that first night. He lives in Ohio and hangs out with the same group of friends he grew up with. He’s still having a good time screwing around and likes being out on the road and chasing after different women to see who he can get into his bed. He’s charming and fun and makes everyone around him feel great, but he’s also a heartbreaker and has found it extremely difficult to stay faithful to a woman. He doesn’t like hurting people, so he continues to be extremely upfront about his intentions, although he finds that the girls back home still manage to fall for him. Now that his friends are all getting married, they don’t have as much time to go out and party with him. They ask Jimin when he is finally going to grow up and settle down, but he really can’t imagine himself in that lifestyle. He’s starting to feel a limited by his current environment - there just isn’t enough excitement. So he’s applied for a transfer to the Los Angeles office because he thinks a big city might be better for him. If that doesn’t work out, he’s heard rumors that the sales manager in Las Vegas might be retiring next year and he wouldn’t mind taking that job either.
He remembers the OC as one of the wilder nights he’s had on the road and has told all his friends about that time he had sex with a girl while she made her ex-boyfriend listen to them on the phone. Ah… good times!
Guys who seem too good to be true, generally are too good to be true. Jimin is fun in the moment, but not boyfriend material. He knows it. That’s the way he wants it.

I don’t think I’ll ever do a part two for Snap Decision. I wrote it with the full intention of it being a one night stand and a way for the OC to start moving on from her failed relationship. Jimin serves that purpose nicely since he is an exceedinlgy confident playboy. I’m not sure he would hold up as well as an ongoing lover or a boyfriend. I’d prefer to leave him as a happy memory for the OC, rather than taint the beautiful night they spent together with the very human flaws that will show up if they meet again.
