Snaefrid stared out at the grassy lands of the hills she had found herself on. She was gently rolling a dagger between her palms. It was a short dagger, more like a knife than a dagger. It had a simple pummel, wrapped in leather. It had formally been her father's dagger, having found itself in Snaefrids possession now after the events that occurred a few days before. The memories were sharp and blurred in her mind. The battle against Ivar had taken Snaefrids father from her and made her the queen of her people in one swift blow. It had left herself along with her new husband Bjorn and their allies few and on the run for their lives. While Ivar proclaimed himself king of Kattegat with Harald at his side.

Snaefrid had escaped with her life, and a few of her warriors had survived, but many more of the Sami laid lifeless on the forest floor. When fleeing the battle they barely had time to gather anything before running from Kattegat with their warriors and what people would come with them, and now they had to decide what to do.

Ivar and Harald were sure to hunt Bjorn and Ubbe to the ends of the world, and anyone who was willing to help them would quickly be dealt with. They had very few options.

The women on Vikings deserve better

I’ve been thinking about this question, so I am sorry I didn’t answer earlier, but I was stumped coming up with a good answer lol. 

I’m guessing she served a few purposes. Several birds with one stone. They wanted to make Lagertha look strong at first so they brought in the sami as an ally, and they needed an introduction somehow, like who are these dudes? Oh, marry one! Here’s a custom! Chewing balls! And then her death gave Bjorn an emotional moment in the finale, I mean, plain and simple, that’s how they used her. Plus, bonus kinky sex scene. 

Ivar lost a mom. Well now Bjorn has lost a stepson and a wife. Even the score I guess. Though he did kind of lose a daughter while she was left in Aslaug’s care, which is never mentioned but Bjorn could easily throw in Ivar’s face if he wanted to, (like both Bjorn and Lagertha could be like, revenge for Little Siggy played a part in Aslaug’s death but it’s not a thing at all) but some things we forget on Vikings and others you’re smacked over the head with every episode. 

And I’m just thinking objectively here. I haven’t been able to pick a side since last season when it was Vikings vs. Aella. It was like watching the Marvel Civil War for me, I wasn’t firmly for one team over the other. I got both sides. Like, Bucky is my dude, but I understood Tony. And on Vikings, Ivar is my dude, but … I get why he shouldn’t quite be ruling a kingdom yet. 

WOW That was a tangent. Sorry, you just asked a simple question about Snaefrid ;-) 

But yeah, I also think they wanted to get Torvi away from Bjorn somehow so she’d end up with Ubbe. Sounds like Ubbe won’t be king of Kattegat, but he might be king of somewhere, and he’ll need a queen. A queen that is not Margrethe, apparently. 

It seems like every half-season a lot of us are like OHHH WHO IS THE NEW GIRL COULD BE COOL and then it’s like NEVERMIND. Last season for me was Tanaruz. I thought she could have had such a cool story, ALAS NEVERMIND. Snaefrid could have been the same. I mean, she had mad skillz and I loved her war paint technique.
