Three years later, I'm looking at a car with a lot of dirt and overspray. It is vital that your car's paint job is protected and maintained. These are some tips to help you protect and maintain the paint on your vehicle.
Wash Your Car!
Washing your car is the most obvious tip. Although it shouldn't be, I admit that I sometimes get lazy and forget to wash my car. I wouldn't recommend using car washes because they could accidentally scratch your vehicle's paint. You will most likely need to wash your vehicle before waxing, compound, or clay is applied. Smittys
Keep Your Vehicle Safe:
You can leave your car in the garage if you have permission. Your paint job can be saved from any debris or overspray that neighbors haven't told you about. This has happened to me a few times. Keep your vehicle away from the sun whenever possible. You wouldn't want to sit in the sun for long periods of time knowing that it would cause pain, would you?
Keep your Paint Waxed:
Many people don't know that paint is like skin. If it is hot outside, the pores of the paint can open up and dirt and debris can fill them in. This can easily damage the paint on your car. You can prevent dirt and debris from getting into the paint pores by waxing your vehicle. Wash your car first before waxing it. This will ensure that all dirt and debris is removed. Waxing your car will prolong the life of its clear coat and protect you from any minor scratches.
Using a Good Sealer:
Car sealant was popularized in the 1980's. Since then, people have used what is called "clear coat" as a protective coating over their vehicle's paint. It could be described as the skin of the apple. After some wear and tear, the paint will start to lose its clear coat or sealer. You will need to apply more. You have two options: either go to a paint shop or paint your boat yourself. It's easy and affordable. So that paint doesn't get scratched or oversprayed, you should always use a good sealant.
In conclusion, you can always keep your vehicles paint protected. If you want your vehicle's paint to last, it is better to be extra protective.
