If James could twiddle his thumbs right now, that is exactly what he would be doing, but as it was, he was magically glued to the floor of his dorm room beside one of his best friends while the brass band they charmed to never stop playing droned on, repeating the same song over and over.

They’d expected Peter back by now, but with Regulus and Sirius free inside the castle, he was probably lying low.

They had tried shouting for help until Remus pointed out that one of them, probably Regulus, would have put a silencing charm on the door, so they might as well save their breath.

James watched the clouds pass across the only window he could just see out of. He described the shapes to Remus until Remus told him to shut up, and then they just lay there in silence, waiting for someone to come in and free them.

“Oi, Potter!” Lily barged in. “If you’re naked, get dressed; we’re supposed to be at a meeting with McGonagall!” The brass band cut off, leaving the room deafeningly quiet. “You lot are so weird,” she commented.

“Er, Lily,” James said, knowingly adding to the weird. “Little help?” Lily rolled her eyes at the pair, and James thought for a second she was going to turn around and leave them there.

“Which one did you piss off?” She asked as she helped them to their feet. James slumped against the bedpost.

“Both,” he admitted.

“Ha! Good luck with that,” Lily snorted and grabbed James, pulling him out of the room and towards McGonagall’s office.
