It was a lovely day in Ponyland, the sun shining and snow covering the valley, glistening against the bright sun. But do you know what day it is? It’s Valentine’s Day! The day that celebrates love, either romantic or platonic, that comes once a year, and today Slugger and Buttons were going to The Perfect Pastry Parlor. The Perfect Pastry Parlor was a sweet shop plus cafe in Ponyland run by a unicorn mare named Strawberry Donut, she was a good friend of the Paradise Estate ponies, and her donuts were delicious! “What do you have planned for me today, Slugger?” asked Buttons curiously “It's a surprise” answered Slugger playfully, he wanted to keep it a secret until he and Buttons got to the parlor, Strawberry Donut was doing something special for the season. Buttons remained undeterred, she looked at Slugger with a raised eyebrow and smirk, “Hm, I don't know that you’ve noticed but we are going to a place that mainly makes donuts.” she inquired, playfully grilling him to spill the beans. Slugger turned his head to her “Well what if we're not going to the parlor for donuts? We could be going to the parlor for churros, you know those delicious cinnamon sugar covered fried dough sticks? What about those?” he feigned, but not without still keeping a smile on a face. Buttons still looked at him with a raised eyebrow, “Or what about muffins? We could be going to have muffins. I heard Strawberry Donut made some blueberry ones as of late.” he continued. “Oh really?” asked Buttons “Yep, blueberry muffins, sometimes I see them in a display case whenever I’ve passed by.” answered Slugger. Buttons just rolled her eyes affectionately, she could never get enough of who Slugger was, he was a kind, benevolent, and loving soul, and Slugger himself couldn’t get enough of Buttons, she was the most lovely unicorn mare he ever set his eyes upon, why of course, his love for her was so great that not even chains could him down from her. One day, a visit to Paradise Estate for him and his pals, the Big Brother Ponies, took an unexpected turn when an evil witch named Somnambula captured all of the Little Ponies so she could steal their youth, Buttons was forced to power Somnambula’s twisted amusement park, and that wasn’t going to happen on Slugger’s watch. He and the other Big Brother Ponies put a stop to Somnambula’s evil plot and everything was returned to normal, and he got spend some quality time with Buttons.

Back to the present, he and Buttons made it to The Perfect Pastry Parlor, Slugger, being lovesick for Buttons as always, went over to hold the door for her “Thank you Slugger” said Buttons as she went inside “No problem” he said as he followed inside the parlor right after him. Meanwhile, the titular owner of The Perfect Pastry Parlor, Strawberry Donut, was busy wiping the register counter, that's when she saw Buttons and Slugger arrived. “Oh hello there Buttons! Hello there Slugger!” greeted Strawberry Donut happily “Hello Strawberry” Buttons greeted back “Hey Strawberry” greeted Slugger. Strawberry Donut walked towards the two “So Buttons, did Slugger tell you about a surprise he had?” she asked. “Oh no he kept it a secret.” answered Buttons, Strawberry Donut lifted her hoof against her face and giggled “Well if he didn’t tell you everything than, I’m also in on his little surprise for you.” replied Strawberry Donut. Buttons lightly opened her mouth in surprise, apparently Strawberry Donut was in on this too, she turned and looked at Slugger, who was giving her a knowing smirk. “Shall I show you both to your table?” asked Strawberry Donut “Yes you may Strawberry” answered Slugger, with that Strawberry Donut escorted the two to their table, Buttons got over the shock of the revelation of Strawberry Donut being in on whatever Slugger had planned. Both Buttons and Slugger sat down in the chairs, that’s when Strawberry Donut said “I’ll right back, Buttons you’re going to love this.” as the pink unicorn headed towards behind the register to the kitchen. Buttons looked back at Strawberry Donut with a quizzical face “Hm, I thought she’d ask what we wanted to drink first.” she asked confusedly before turning to Slugger “All part of the surprise.” replied Slugger in a cool and smooth tone, everything was going so far so good. Buttons tilted her head, she was still pining to know what he was up to, Slugger specifically bringing her to the Perfect Pastry Parlor and Strawberry Donut herself also being in on his surprise for her. That’s when she came, Strawberry Donut walked towards the table, carrying a platter on her right hoof, once she made it Strawberry Donut placed the platter on the table, revealing four donuts, a heart-shaped one, a jelly-stuffed one, a chocolate one, and an eclair, all of which were Valentine’s Day themed. “Oh Strawberry, what’s all this?” asked Buttons, looking at the donuts both surprised and happy, Strawberry Donut chuckled “It’s Slugger’s surprise, because of the Valentine's Day season I made special donuts for the occasion, Slugger found out about it and wanted to surprise you.” she explained. Buttons looked up at Slugger, who was blushing and had his hoof behind his head “I really wanted to do something special.” he said. Buttons looked at him with passion in her eyes “Oh Slugger, thank you.” she said, “Anything for you Buttons” Slugger replied. “Now then” started Strawberry Donut “Would you both like to get started on your drinks now?” she asked, “Oh yes” replied Buttons “I’ll just have an espresso please” she asked “One iced latte for me please” said Slugger “Coming right up!” exclaimed Strawberry Donut as she went to go prepare the drinks.

Once Strawberry Donut left, Buttons broke the silence “Slugger” she started “Yeah?” asked the stallion “Thank you for being my Valetine.” she said, hearing those words made Slugger so happy, being called Buttons’ Valentine was the cherry on top, the unicorn mare he loved ever since he met her “Oh Buttons, you’ve made me the happiest stallion today, I love you so, so much.” he said, Buttons blushed when he said that “I love you too Slugger.” she said back. Soon enough Strawberry Donut came back with the couple’s drinks, and the rest of Buttons and Slugger’s Valentine’s Day went well, during their donut meal they chatted about things, flirted, and even nuzzled each other affectionately. This was truly a great Valentine's Day.
