Have been thinking a lot about what went wrong vis a vis doctor who in the last few years and honestly, I think we've been heading towards this hiatus since at least 2020, but the main problem with the disney era of the show was the fact that they wanted the show to be event television. They wanted a stranger things or something with the profile of the mcu or star wars, and the quality suffered because that's not what doctor who is
And it's just so frustrating because you need to just ask almost any fan and they'll tell you what we want! Doctor who shouldn't be event tv, it should be a sci fi procedural
It just needs a bit of a break, a new set of people behind the scenes with fresh ideas, and a format which will allow the strength of the show (diversity of storytelling) to really shine. It does not need 8 episodes every couple of years, mostly written by the same cis white guy and all building up to a season finale of a story arc that people didn't care about with huge stupid lore changes no one asked for :p
