Skyslicer I did a little bit ago to test a scale detail brush I made. Probably wont be able to see unless you zoom in, outside of the “ears” anyway.

Doodle dump: Fury edition
At one point I was planning a short comic that showed how Skyslicer got his scar, but I never ended up moving past some rough thumbs and this half finished test page with no backgrounds.
Some older art of Skyslicer I just recently touched up. All of the light furies we’ve seen so far in any media look fairly similar to one another, so I didn’t want to stray too far with Sky. (this fits well with my headcanon that most night furies would be relatively similar to each other with minor differences, like many animals.) Besides what would manifest in a 3d model as a slightly different face and eye shape, his main physical differences from the female light fury in httyd 3 are a faint “crest” that rises from the center of his forehead, teal eyes, and darker extremities, as well as a scar over his right eye. I may try to differentiate him more in the future, but I don’t want to stray too far from the characteristics we’ve seen so far.

I made gay fury ocs btw. I thought it would be cool to have a dragon pair that reflects the same sex mates we see in many real animals like penguins. Seaspray is Blacklights brother, and balances out her short temper and active behavior with his calmness. Hes a bit bad at socializing with other dragons and prefers to keep to his family, but Skyslicer manages to get through that with his persistence and they form a bond that results in them becoming mates. Skyslicer picks up smiling from Seaspray, who picked it up from Toothless+other Night Lights. (I head canon its a learned behavior that spreads through the fury population through Toothless and his offspring, along with some of Toothless’s other human influences.) They have a habit of acting as surrogate parents to lost/abandoned/orphaned dragons in the hidden world.
Hi, LOVE your httyd musings! i wanted to ask, besides the scar (and i guess being male) are there any visual differences to look out for between Skyslicer and the light fury we see in HTTYD3? also i adore how Blacklight is basically an orca in dragon form – really good design
Thank you so much! Yeah I worried it would be a little too obvious that shes an orca? But I liked it so much I kept it anyway. Seaspray is based on horses. The third sibling, a male named Coalcap, is based on van pattern cats (I don’t really have any good drawings of him to share as most of these are doodles anyway)
For Skyslicer, its kinda hard to work out such subtle differences, especially since his design is evolving and nothing I’ve posted is a “final design”. His coloration is different. Darker, dingier blue around the ears, eyes, tail, and legs. His eyes are also more of a teal. His eyes I also imagine are rounder. Ive also considered giving him a bit of a ridge along his forehead that looks almost like the fin on his back tapers out along it. I believe I also draw his ears a bit larger, thicker, and wider set than HTTYD3 Light Fury, but thats more personal artistic license/not remembering how the light fury looks in the movie lol.
His body language also differentiates him. Hes a lot more wide eyed, less cautious. Hes never had a run in with humans, and hes much more trusting. Also extremely non aggressive. Almost too friendly for his own good at times.Like he’s got this sense of innocence to him.
Eventually he will grow out of some of that innocence, especially as he deals with the trials of parenting in a wild world, but ultimately, hes persistently friendly.
