The Czech company Skoda traces its origins back to the mid-19th century, but it became an automaker in 1924 when it began building Hispano-Suiza luxury cars under license. In 1925, she bought out the Laurin & Klement company with a plant in Mladá Boleslav, founded by Vaclav Laurin and Vaclav Klement in 1895. The first Skoda models were inherited from Laurin & Klement, but since 1933 the production of a new generation of cars with a spinal frame begins and independent suspension on oscillating axle shafts copied from Tatra. From 1934 to 1946 the line included three main series: cheap Popular, intermediate Rapid and prestigious Superb. After the Second World War, the plant was nationalized by the communist government of Czechoslovakia and became a consolidated enterprise of Skoda AZNP, specializing in the production of passenger cars. Until 1964, the lineup mainly consisted of small cars of pre-war design with modern bodies, and then they were replaced by rear-engined cars. Until the beginning of the 80s. more than half of Skoda products were exported.

Skoda used the main frame in the design of its cars 10 years later than Tatra, and was able to switch to the rear-engine layout only in 1964, when it was no longer relevant. But in the 30s. such solutions were considered progressive, along with research in the field of aerodynamics. In 1932, in Mladá Boleslav, under the leadership of Karel Hrdlička, a small car prototype was built with a rear-mounted boxer 4-cylinder air-cooled engine - Skoda 932.

This car had nothing to do with the production models of the company, but was close to the early designs of Hans Ledwinka and Ferdinand Porsche, which later became known as the Tatra T77 and Volkswagen Beetle. Skoda did not have the opportunity to immediately put an innovative prototype on the conveyor, and she went the other way - she combined a spinal frame and independent all-wheel suspension with a traditional front-engine layout and an old-fashioned wood-framed body.

But the idea of moving the engine back was continued: in 1934, a second prototype was built called the Skoda 932 Tudor, which had a two-door sedan with a vertical grille and separate headlights and a 1.8-liter inline 4-cylinder water-cooled engine in the rear overhang. The result of all work in this direction was summed up by the futuristic Skoda 935 Dynamik, presented in 1935 at the Prague Motor Show.

Obviously, the Skoda 935 was created under the influence of the Tatra T77, put into production in 1934. These machines were based on a round-section main frame, which was a pipe connecting the front and rear axles and containing the main transmission elements. The liquid-cooled engine of the Skoda 935 was located not behind, but in front of the driving rear axle. It consisted of two pairs of opposed horizontal cylinders with two overhead valves (OHV), and with a volume of 1995 cm3 it developed 55 hp.

The suspension was fully independent, with wishbones and transverse leaf springs at the front and oscillating axles at the rear, which caused the rear wheels to have a positive camber angle. The 4-speed manual transmission was equipped with an electromagnetic pre-selection mechanism from Cotal. In front, the main part of the trunk was occupied by a 40-liter gas tank built into the frame holder and a spare wheel laid horizontally, which, according to the designers, served as an air bag in the event of a frontal impact.

The four-door aerodynamic body of the Skoda 935 looked much more modern than that of the Tatra T77: it received pontoon front and rear fenders, headlights integrated into them, a decorative waterfall grille, six side windows and a small rear window, divided into two halves by a central stabilizer.

Unlike the Tatra T77, the Skoda 935 Dynamik never became a production car. In 1939, it was sold into private hands and fell into oblivion. In 1968, the miraculously surviving prototype ended up in the factory museum, and only after 40 years did it wait for restoration. In the process of restoration in 2014, it was shown at the Retromobile exhibition in Paris, and already in its completed form - at the Schloss Bensberg Classics 2015 auto show in the German town of Bergisch Gladbach.
