A pair of skekling OCs I came up with months ago, but only just now finalized designs and colors for. The twin offspring of skekZok the Ritual-Master and skekSa the Mariner, they’re both beanpoles who inherited the tall gene from both sides. When they were hatched, neither parent was willing to either change their lifestyle or surrender the children completely, so they formed a shared custody arrangement, with the kids spending part of their time at the Castle and part of their time at sea.Â
SkekNept the Theurgist (often called the Witch behind her back) is very much skekZok’s favorite -- she takes after him in looks, conducts herself well at court, and shares his interest in ritual and magic. Willing to go to almost any lengths to further her knowledge of the arcane arts, she later comes into conflict with her parents when she seeks out urZah and urSan, hoping to learn more about mysticism (no pun intended) from them. SkekNept isn’t evil, exactly (she doesn’t enjoy pointless cruelty the way her father or the Emperor do), but she’s definitely the more amoral and darker-natured of the twins.Â
SkekVask, unlike his sibling, doesn’t fit in well at the Castle. He prefers the freedom (and privilege) he enjoys among the Sifa, and takes an interest in shipbuilding, making floating lanterns, and other Gelfling crafts. When he has to spend time at court, he often seeks out skekTek’s company (he sees him as a fellow misfit, and his mother and the Scientist have always been on good terms). SkekVask goes without a title for a very long time, but eventually, he combines what he’s learned from different teachers into a design for Thra’s first airship -- earning him the title the Pilot. Â
(Note: I haven’t decided which parent sired or laid the eggs. The twins call skekSa “mother” because the Sifa referred to her as such when they met the babies, and she didn’t object because it’s a title that carries a lot of respect. SkekZok then got stuck with “father” by default.)
