the first time you share a bed with someone other than a friend is when he sleeps over after your first kiss. and this feels different. he is warm. you are hesitant to touch at first but he reaches out for you; you remain in his arms for the rest of the day. you hear his heart beating. you share your bed, your clothes, but most of all, you share your story. about dads who leave moms and force you to make a choice you should not have to make. you leave out details. you do not tell too much about your mother; she is a different story. he is silent, but keeps twirling his fingers in patterns as if to say that it is okay. just tell me what you need to tell me. nothing more.
after that afternoon, you have difficulties having him to stay in your bed; even after you make up. a bed with him means cuddles, means soft giggles in the middle of the night, means never-felt-before intimacy, means cold noses pressed in your neck and cold toes against your shins, means his lingering smell on the pillow case that has been left empty; it means never going to sleep or waking up at the same time. you are always a bit too early or a bit too late.
until he does not leave at all, wrapped inside a cocoon of your blue and grey duvet. you have been keeping a vigil for over two hours, you want to be awake when he wakes up. he needs to know you are there. his movements are not as easy as before; he feels heavy, his limbs feel too big, takes deep sighs, needs to adjust to being. being awake. being aware. you take your time; you take in his words and you counter them with a new concept; only think of these sixty seconds. he lights up a little; he calms down; he is receptive to your touch. he sleeps. in your arms. he stays.
a few difficult days pass, in which you are so horrendously unsure about what you are doing but you are so glad that he trusts you. he does not leave your bed. you wish you could lift his troubles and bear them on your own shoulders; but you cannot, so you settle for an outing for kebab and celebrate the small victories. when you return home from school one day, he is playing games; a soft swoop of hair peeks out from under your hoodie he is wearing. his eyes are still sleepy and tired, but have a little spark in them. and he laughs again, he smiles. and you realise that this is the most beautiful he has ever looked; wrapped in your clothes, lying in your bed and with this smile. his stunning smile. you want to watch his face for hours on end; you will never get bored of him. so that is what you do. you watch. you smile. you adore him.
after moving in together, you do not need to say anything about beds; you make a silent agreement that your bed will move with you. the blue and grey sheets; the grey pillow, and your best blue pillow that is somehow now always his; they are not to be left behind. only months ago, you would have been horrified, but now he documents every thing you do together on his phone and you find that you do not mind. this is me, you think, this is us. it is okay for the world to see. so you lie together in that sacred space, that bed that has become home ever since that very first kiss; and you just smile your gummy smile. his face lights up with his gorgeous smile. and you realise you never want to be without him in this bed again.Ā
Accidental dating (because nothing makes me happier than two dumbs who act like theyāre in a relationship without realising theyāre in a relationship)

Isak loves Even. Platonically. The way friends love each other.
Theyāve known each other for years and are probably as close as two friends can be. He supposes thatās why everyone always assumes theyāre dating. Baristas and waiters always ask if theyāre paying together, old women on the tram and random girls in school always comment on what a lovely couple they are, heās pretty sure half of UiO believes theyāve been together since Nissen.
To be fair, sometimes in clubs when one of them is on the receiving end of unwanted attention the other might step into the boyfriend role but other than that, Isak doesnāt really know what it is about them that gives off the relationship vibe. Itās not like theyāre ever holding hands or anything when people say these things; he thinks theyāre tactile a normal amount.
Itās after a particular encounter with a cashier that Isak really starts to question it. He and Even had stopped in the supermarket on the way back to Isakās flat to get food for their movie night and had been bickering over whether to get butter popcorn or salted when Even had huffed and put them both on the conveyor belt, declaring heād pay the extra few kroner if itād make Isak stop complaining.
The woman manning the till had grinned at them with a knowing look and said, āAlready acting like an old married couple, just wait until youāve got rings on your fingers.ā Sheād winked then and Isak had been about to correct her when Even had thrown an arm around his shoulder and said, āWe love each other, really,ā with a laugh.
And Isak had justā¦stared.
Sure, they go along with it sometimes when itās just easier than explaining the truth but he still had felt a little dumbfounded at how easily the words had rolled off Evenās tongue.
This leads him to where he is now, sitting with the boys at lunch and completely checked out of the conversation because his mind is so plagued with thoughts of Even.
āEarth to Isak,ā Jonas calls and, judging by the tone of his voice, itās not the first time heās said his name. āWhatās up with you?ā
āSo me and Even were at the supermarket, right? And the lady behind the counter thought we were togetherā¦ā
āAnd?ā Jonas presses when Isak doesnāt say anymore. Which, really, he doesnāt think he needs to say anymore. Shouldnāt that piece of information be strange enough on its own?
āAnd Even didnāt deny it!ā
All heās met with is three blank faces which makes him huff, throwing his hands up in the air dramatically.
āButā¦you and Even are together,ā Magnus says slowly, face scrunching up in confusion.
āNo, weāre not,ā Isak replies blankly.
āNot this again,ā Mahdi groans, slouching down in his chair and somehow managing to make his bite of his waffle look exasperated.
āNot what again?ā Isak demands, looking from each of his friends to the next until Jonas seems to be the one who decides to bite the bullet.
āIsak, you and Even are dating,ā he says as if heās explaining something to a small child.
Isakās head reels back, eyes narrowing incredulously. āNo, weāre not?ā
āBro, you literally are,ā Mahdi cuts in. āYouāre always together.ā
āSo? What does that prove?ā
āEskildās caught you cuddling like a million times,ā Magnus adds.
Jonas snaps his fingers as if Magnus just gave him a thought. āYes! Isak, he sleeps in your bed all the time. Platonic, adult friends donāt have sleepovers just for the hell of it every week.ā
āBut-ā
āEven looks at you like you hung the fucking moon,ā Mahdi continues.
āAnd you look at him like heās the sun,ā Magnus agrees.
āFace it, man,ā Jonas says. āYou and Even have got it bad for each other.ā

Isak takes the tram to Evenās apartment in a daze, mind still reeling from everything the boys have said. The thing is, theyāre right. He doesnāt act with Even the same way he does with any of their other friends. He doesnāt feel that comfortable with anyone besides Even. And, if he really thinks about it, he knows he looks at Even a little differently to the way he looks at everyone else.
Heās not even a little bit prepared for when Even opens his door and thatās the only reason his immediate reaction upon seeing him is to blurt out, āAre we dating?ā
Even blinks. āWhat?ā
Isak releases a harsh breath, blustering inside when Even steps out of the way to let him in. āItās just- yesterday, that cashier thought we were together and you didnāt deny it and I was talking to the guys and they kept telling me all these ways we act like a couple and I just- are we dating?ā he asks helplessly, letting his shoulders drop.
Even doesnāt reply right away, closing the door and taking a few hesitant steps closer to Isak. āNo, weāre not dating,ā he says quietly and Isak feels his stomach drop. He hadnāt expected to hurt that much, especially when heās only really known his feelings for Even are something more for a couple of hours.
āOh. I-ā
Isakās excuse gets cut short when Even suddenly takes his hands and steals his breath. āWeāre not dating,ā Even repeats. āBut Iād really, really like us to be.ā
āOh,ā Isak whispers, eyes widening as he looks from their joined hands up to Evenās face.
āIf you want to?ā Even continues, raising his eyebrows and making Isakās heart melt.
āI want to,ā Isak breathes.
Evenās expression lights up in a smile then and, oh so slowly, he leans in and brushes their lips together in a gentle kiss. Itās nerve-tingling, itās mind-altering, itās everything.
āThatās for every time I didnāt kiss you when someone told us we look cute together,ā Even murmurs when he pulls back.
Isak feels his mouth curve up in a grin. āA lot of people told us that, I might need a couple of more kisses to make up for it.ā
Even barks out a laugh, eyes crinkling at the corners as he pulls Isak in for another kiss.
The next time someone asks if theyāre together, Isak doesnāt deny it.

Heās also pretty used to waking up in Jonasās bed, usually with Jonas curled up beside him, light that comes in through Jonasās window and hits Isak right in the face. What heās not used to is Jonasās arm slung over his hip and no memory of what the fuck got them to this point.

Kathi and I were unfortunately too busy to properly contribute to this event but Iāve been following along with everyone elseās fics and thereās been some great content this week so i figured Iād write up a quick post to throw some shoutouts to a couple of my faves! This is an AU where the boys are rooommates and Even asks Isak to pretend to be his husband for the sake of tricking a co-worker. I thought this was a really sweet take on the trope and really well-paced for its length! Thereās a great sense of history/continuity to it, and I love how open the ending is. The development of their relationship doesnāt feel forced at all!

Even and Isak are best friends who share beds throughout the years. This was just so heartwarmingly adorable, the development of their relationship is really well done and believable. Very good use of details, and Isakās voice feels very in character throughout even as a younger character which is really impressive!

This fic imagines an alternative meeting for Mikael and Jonas, wherein they exchange anonymous notes on the wall of a public bathroom. The premise is executed in a believable way, and I really like how both these characters are portrayed in this fic! I especially love how they team up to conspire against their best friends Even and Isak, it definitely feels like something theyād do lol.

Unchill Even remains my favorite thing in this entire world and itās so well done here, I love his internal monologue and the way he sees Isak seems entirely appropriate for the setting. I also love their interactions, confident Isak is my other favorite thing in this world and again itās just played so well and naturally here? A really sweet and fun read!!

Oh, this is just some A grade pining, here. Very well written, and the development of Eva and Vildeās relationship - as well as Evaās own character arc - feels incredibly natural! Evaās voice is totally spot on, and I love that part of her arc is about finding her own place, independent of but also not mutually exclusive from her feelings.
