Opinions on Sixway
Donât worry, theyâre mostly positive
So obviously Six made its broadway debut yesterday and Iâm so happy for both the queens and for Toby and Lucy. Itâs amazing to see how far this production has come since May 2019 and I seriously hope the show continues to grow even more.
Before I start, can I just reiterate that I have no bias towards any cast of Six? Anything I say here are genuine things Iâve noticed and Iâm not trying to favour one cast over another.
Things I liked!:
The new costumes for Aragon, Boleyn, Seymour, Cleves and Howard! Theyâre all just improved versions of their old costumes that are better suited to their body types and more glitzy for broadway. Whatâs not to love?
In fact, I know this might be an unpopular opinion but I actually really dig Brittâs new Cleves costume and it fits with Brittâs more melodramatic and grandiose version of Cleves, and those make me gayer by every second. Although I donât really see other versions of Cleves wearing this outfit, I think Britt suits the new additions. And again those boots
THE LIGHTING!!! They seriously must be going for an award at the Tonyâs for their lighting, because a) itâs referenced a lot more throughout the show and b) theyâre making a lot more use of it during the megasix.
I swear thereâs been really small additions to the band arrangements(I come from a musical family so I pick up on these things) but, for lack of a better way of describing it, theyâre mostly to do with bulking out the sound of the music than changing the songs (if that makes sense) and theyâre actually really good so no complaints here.
The stage didnât look nearly as big as I worried it would be. The stage in Boston seemed so massive but this one doesnât seem nearly as big, which is good because sometimes big stages with smaller shows donât work well together. Itâs bigger than the arts, but nowhere near as big as the Sydney opera house so đ¤ˇđťââď¸
The queens are just so confident. Thereâs no broadway nerves in sight and thatâs great. Seeing how far theyâve come from the first sixcago performance only a few months ago is amazing and Iâm so happy for all of them. From the moment they step on from Ex-wives they own the stage and kill it.
This is more of a general US observation but I like it so Iâll mention it but Andreaâs very quick and snappy as Boleyn. Sheâs not waiting about to think of her insults, sheâs saying them really rapid fire and without hesitating. It offsets Abbyâs more awkward and apologetic version of Seymour and just works as a good contrast between the two.
Also the queens backing up Andrea in DLUH seem so personally invested/offended by everything she does. Like almost screaming âWHAT?â And sounding so confused at âYOUâRE LIVING WITH HIS WIFEâ. Idk if thereâs like anything to analyse here but idk I liked it so Iâm mentioning it. Deal with it.
Heart of Stone made me cry. âNuff said.
THEY WENT FOR HOH AND IâM HERE FOR IT. IT IS SO FUCKING LOUD AND SO OVER-EXAGGERATED AND ITS AMAZING!
(in fact everything is louder and more over-exaggerated which was definitely needed for this bigger theatre imo)
âBut we cannot guarantee that youâll still walk at forty :)â Miss Abby Mueller you never fail to deliver on that line.
Wow I really love Brittney Mack.
Thatâs it.
Thatâs the point.
Okay but real talk her Cleves was always so melodramatic but theyâve taken this to the next level and Iâm for it. Idk what exactly she does at the âtake my furâ bit for Get Down but the crowd went WILD so I canât wait to find out!
I think thereâs been small, subtle changes to the backing vocals of AWYD but they really work. Plus, Iâm a massive fan of the more angry and betrayed Howardâs in general so Sam delivers as always. Sheâs the only Howard I know to literally cry on multiple occasions and I love her for it.
I just hope we get more Mallory Howardâs in future because Iâd love to hear her rendition of AWYD.
The argument after AYWD makes it seem seem like the queens are 30 seconds from ripping each other apart. Like theyâre all at the end of their sanity and about to explode and honestly? I think that works more for the American queens.
That random fucking cowbell before IDNYL. It literally made me cry with laughter and makes me wonder what the fuck Parrâs original song was going to be. I know theyâre still in preview stage for the show so Iâm excited to see if any more extra lines or gags like these are added into the show as time goes on.
In fact that cowbell features at other points too I think, along with extra cymbals. And they crack me up. Seriously theyâre so random.
Speaking of IDNYL, Anna seemed to be leaning into the softer side of Parr than she usually would and Iâm here for it! US Six always had a more melodramatic than friendly Cleves and a more angry Howard, but something is needed to offset these characteristics. A softer, more insecure Parr is exactly whatâs needed here.
Also the extra beats (idk how to phrase it) in the reprise of IDNYL were a really unexpected change but they work so well. Again, itâs bulking out the sound of the show but in a good way. Nothing seems cluttered which can be an issue when stuff is added to an arrangement.
Bonus mention goes towards the alternates. They havenât actually done anything (since they werenât on last night) but I love them so Iâm mentioning them anyway.
Things Iâm not so sure about:
The playbill/promotional pictures. This sounds so random but like,,,Anna, Adrianna and Brittney look very whitewashed in these pictures, especially Anna. I seriously hope this was just the result of a really really badly chosen filter and nothing more.
The Parr peplum. I genuinely do not understand why they had to change Annaâs costume because it was pefect as it was. The changes to the other costumes? They all make sense to me and I love them. But this...itâs just odd to me. Maybe itâs because I love both Anna and Parrâs OG costume anyway but itâs something I personally dislike and I donât apologise for my opinion.
Not being allowed to film the megasix... but lets be real here who is actually listening to that rule?

SIX NEWS BROADCAST OF THE WEEK
Good morning, good afternoon and good evening to all you guys, gals and non-binary pals. This is Access (360) Three-SIX-ty, your access to real time SIX news.
And for todayâs headlines:
+ CONCERT VERSION OF SIX AND EMERGENCY COVERS STUNS QUEENDOM. Due to 5 of the 9 cast members, including alternates Vicki Manser and Grace Mouat being unavailable at the time being, SIXâs playwright and composer Toby Marlow and the Studio Castâs Genesis Lynea took over the roles of Catherine Parr and Anna of Cleves respectively in a unique concert version of SIX last July 28. The concert version, designed to accommodate not only the emergency covers, but also the needs of 2 of the 4 available cast members, Jarneia Richard Noel and Courtney Stapleton, both of which were injured at the time, featured choreography to a bare minimum and a more vocal-focused performance, accompanied with 6 microphone stands placed in front of the audience.
+ OVERWORKED QUEENS? POSSIBLE WORKING CONDITIONS DISCUSSED BY QUEENDOM After learning that 3 (Vicki, Natalie and Lexi) of the 5 unavailable cast members were down with sickness, Courtney Stapleton and Jarneia Richard Noel still went on with the show despite their leg injuries, and with the knowledge that Millie OâConnell has been on 26 or more consecutive shows without breaks, awareness towards the wellbeing and overall health of the actresses has been brought to tantamount highs by the queendom, causing discussions on the possible working environments the main cast may face, such as being overworked. The idea of the need of having understudies has also been discussed thoroughly. All in all, everyone agreed that the SIX production team should take the castâs health more seriously and that it should be their first priority.
+ SINGALONG ALBUMS AND SHEET MUSIC NOW RELEASED Along with SIXâs 2nd singalong held last August 1, sing-a-long tracks have also been released on the same day. The sing-a-long album features all of the songs in the soundtrack sans the main vocals, providing fans to sing along to their favorite tracks to their hearts' content, accompanied with backing tracks. Sheet music of the songs were also announced and released on the same day; to purchase the music sheets, go to the official SIX website for more info.
+ A WARM WELCOME FOR COLLETTE GUITART - SIXâs newest cast member, Collette Guitart, was given a warm welcome during her first ever SIX debut as Jane Seymour. Due to unexpected illnesses affecting the main cast, Guitart had to go on the show a little earlier than scheduled, accompanied by Sixâs 3 alternates. Sixâs newest understudy is set to debut as Boleyn soon.
+ SIX ON BROADWAY - Originated in London and debuted in the US at the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, SIX is now headed for Broadway at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre, with previews by February 2020 and the official Broadway debut on March 12, 2020. Officially announced by the SIX Management on August 2, this has been hinted at by many Six Fanpages or accounts the day before wherein they were messaged by none other than Toby Marlow himself and were told to post a single picture of a crown against a purple background, one of the trademark symbols of SIX. The Broadway casting has yet to be announced.
