Hereβs a few interesting 7βs that came in the mail over the weekend, filling a few holes in the collection. The left side is a pair of Thomas Dolby-related singlesβthe UK βMy Brain is Like a Sieveβ single from his now-revered βAliens Ate My Buickβ album, and beneath it, βWonderlustβ (sic) by the Parachute Club, a short-lived band he was in around 1979. Itβs basically wannabe Bryan Ferry vocals over Dolbyβs primordial synths, and unsurprisingly, not that great. The left side fares better, with Simple Mindsβ 1995 comeback single, βSheβs A River.β It was a solid song that hit a double when they needed a home run unfortunately, though I remember, of all things, Paul Schaffer and the CBS Orchestra tearing into it for commercial breaks often that year on The Late Show with David Letterman. Last but not least, thereβs a promo 7β of Duran Duranβs βThe Wild Boysββa song I donβt especially care for but which hit number one, so what do I know? Like I said, songs filling holes in the collection.
