Here’s a few interesting 7”s that came in the mail over the weekend, filling a few holes in the collection. The left side is a pair of Thomas Dolby-related singles—the UK “My Brain is Like a Sieve” single from his now-revered “Aliens Ate My Buick” album, and beneath it, “Wonderlust” (sic) by the Parachute Club, a short-lived band he was in around 1979. It’s basically wannabe Bryan Ferry vocals over Dolby’s primordial synths, and unsurprisingly, not that great. The left side fares better, with Simple Minds’ 1995 comeback single, “She’s A River.” It was a solid song that hit a double when they needed a home run unfortunately, though I remember, of all things, Paul Schaffer and the CBS Orchestra tearing into it for commercial breaks often that year on The Late Show with David Letterman. Last but not least, there’s a promo 7” of Duran Duran’s “The Wild Boys”—a song I don’t especially care for but which hit number one, so what do I know? Like I said, songs filling holes in the collection.

Number 16 “Steve-O Professional Idiot: A Memoir” Steve-O gives a very personal account of all the crazy shit he did on and off camera. It was a very interesting read and made me love this dude even more and I didn’t know that was possible!
