Beach/ Private Suite on "Beauharnais" yacht
Alexandra: Ohh you are back! Right in time. It's time to dress up. You don't want to be late to His Imperial Majesty's birthday party, do you?
*silence*
Alexandra: Ekhm How was your spa day? Did you enjoy it?
*silence*
Alexandra: That's enough! What's wrong with you? You barely speak to me! Are you still mad about my late home return?
Hadrian: You think that's the reason why I'm mad? Honestly Alexandra you never cease to amaze me...
Hadrian: All this time I was calm and supportive. I knew you had a rough time. I stepped away when I thought you needed it. I took you for picknics, romantic weekends, holidays, spa etc. I was there for you. And you know what ? I've never heard a 'thank you' from your ungrateful mouth.
Alexandra: I don't think it's the right time for those sort of conversations. There is not much time left...
Hadrian: For you there is no such thing as "the right time"... *Alexandra walks away*
Hadrian: Ohh sure, run away from your problems! That's so you.

â« Napoleon V's Ringtone for Laura âȘ
Back at the royal palace, Napoleon V slips away into the gardens to try to reach Laura. Their brief and confused conversation is abruptly interrupted by the arrival of Eleanor, who catches them by surprise. Convinced she has uncovered a secret affair, Madame Royale mocks the young Emperor with biting humor, while Louis clumsily tries to protect his secret.
ARRIVAL OF HIS IMPERIAL MAJESTY NAPOLĂON V IN THORNOLIA Published on 21 October 2022
His Imperial Majesty NapolĂ©on V arrived in Thornolia today for the State Visit He is undertaking to the Kingdom at the invitation of His Majesty King AurĂ©lien of Thornolia. The Emperor arrived at the Port Olivier aboard L'Aigle, the Imperial yacht of the House of Simparte, where He was welcomed on behalf of the Thornolian Crown by Her Royal Highness Madame Royale Eleanor of Thornolia and His Royal Highness Monseigneur L'Ăpin Ernest of Thornolia. This State Visit reflects the longstanding excellence of relations between Francesim and Thornolia, as well as their shared desire to strengthen cooperation in the cultural, maritime, scientific, and economic fields. Upon His arrival, His Imperial Majesty received military honours before greeting the civil and military authorities in attendance, as well as the many citizens gathered at the harbour to welcome the French delegation. During this first day of the Visit, His Imperial Majesty will attend several official events hosted by the Thornolian Crown, including His investiture into the Ordre de la Salamandre and the State Banquet offered in His honour by Their Majesties the King and Queen of Thornolia. The State Visit will continue until 23 October and will include a number of engagements dedicated to the historic friendship between Francesim and Thornolia, as well as future opportunities for cooperation between the two nations. The Palais des Tuileries extends its warmest thanks to Their Majesties the King and Queen of Thornolia, as well as to all Thornolian authorities, for the welcome extended to His Imperial Majesty and the French delegation.

While Louis confides that he has always drawn inspiration from the figures in his family, Eleanor reveals how much the constant comparisons to her illustrious ancestor have always weighed on her. The conversation then turns to the love story between Oliver and Queen Eleanor, who became sovereign against her will in the midst of a period of crisis. Madame Royale speaks of their mutual devotion, the regency her ancestor assumed during the war, and the personal sacrifices the Crown sometimes demands. Louis wonders about the price one must pay when love leads one to give up a life that was already mapped out.

Napoleon III and the Foreign Sovereigns Invited to the 1867 Universal Exhibition

Charles Porion (1814 - 1905) Oil on canvas c. 1870 Royal Collection of Thornolia

Catalogue Entry: When Movement Becomes a Political Act
By virtue of both its monumental ambition and its sophisticated iconographic programme, The Procession of Emperors and Kings stands among the most accomplished visual representations of imperial diplomacy under Napoleon III. Painted shortly after the 1867 Universal Exhibition, the canvas commemorates one of the defining moments of the Second Empire: the unprecedented gathering in Paris of Europeansim and Eastern sovereigns assembled around the Emperor of the French.
Napoleon III: Primus inter Pares and the Pax Napoleonica
The central position occupied by the Emperor of the French immediately draws the viewer's eye. Mounted upon a white horse, Napoleon III carries neither sword nor marshal's baton. His gaze remains fixed ahead. This restraint perfectly reflects the transformation of imperial imagery during the Second Empire. As numerous art historians have observed, Napoleon III sought less to present himself as a conqueror than as an arbiter of international relations. His authority now derived from his ability to bring Europesim's sovereigns together rather than to subjugate them. Consequently, the painting should not be understood as the depiction of a single historical event, but rather as an idealised synthesis of the official ceremonies held during the spring of 1867. Beneath its apparent neutrality, the composition advances a political ideology: the Pax Napoleonica. The Simparte dynasty is presented as the architect of an international order. The French Empire ceases to appear merely as a military power and instead assumes the role of mediator between nations. Within this framework, the presence of foreign sovereigns serves as an implicit acknowledgement of Francesim's international prestige. The painting therefore belongs fully to the tradition of imperial propaganda - not through heroic exaggeration, but through the carefully orchestrated staging of diplomatic consensus.

Composition: Architecture as the Theatre of Power
The painting ultimately functions as an allegory of the Europeansim Concert of Nations. The assembled sovereigns are brought together to acknowledge, implicitly, Paris as the diplomatic capital of the continent. The artist adopts a rigorously frontal composition, organised as a monumental frieze across which the sovereigns extend over the entire width of the canvas. This arrangement immediately recalls the great collective portraits of diplomatic congresses produced during the nineteenth century, particularly those commemorating the Congress of Paris of 1856. Unlike the traditional group portrait, however, the scene abandons the solemn interiors of conference chambers in favour of the urban landscape, thereby transforming diplomacy into both a spectacular and, above all, public event. Moreover, none of the rulers addresses the viewer directly; each participates in the same forward movement, reinforcing the impression of a political procession rather than a static gallery of historical portraits. The composition thus rests upon a subtle tension between unity and diversity. Every sovereign remains instantly recognisable through his uniform, mount, or national insignia. Yet this careful individualisation never undermines the cohesion of the whole.

Taking advantage of the intermission, Napoleon V quietly slips away for a few moments to try to contact Laura, but without success. Eleanor notices his absence. Using the character of Donna Elvira as an example, she reflects on the difference between being chosen for a moment and being truly loved, as well as the price a woman often pays to preserve her dignity. Deeply affected by her words, which remind Louis of his conversation with Laura, he leaves the conversation visibly irritated just as the lights dim to signal the beginning of the second half.

After the State Banquet, Louis catches Eleanor in a rare moment of vulnerability. Their late-night conversation leads them to reflect on old wounds, expectations, and the people they once were before responsibility and disappointment changed them. For the first time, Louis sees beyond Madame Royaleâs icy façade, while Eleanor catches a glimpse of the doubts hidden behind the Imperial Crown.
