See, around the time Diggy was doing mixtapes, I was in school... Elementary School, or Middle School. I'm 16 now and he's 19. So I would say I was in 5th or 6th grade. I liked his confidence but I wasn't aware of it at that time. I have those soulful parents. My dad works a lot, but loves cars and sports and listens to people like Prince, Cameo and Michael Jackson and all that other Funk type music. But, my dad did actually listen to whatever pleased his ears. So, Will Smith's song Summertime wasn't something he'd pass up. My mom was more into that girl power music. Yes, I mean Pattie Labelle, Whitney Houston and Teena Marie. So, I've had my fair share in musical history. She did listen to the radio more than me dad. While my dad always had his CDs, my mom bumped to the radio. At that time Aaliyah was always on the radio. That was the closest I got to the raw industry of Hip Hop. Even though Aaliyah wasn't straight hip hop, I later realized who she was kickin it with and what other stations she was played on. At that time, I wasn't really looking at computers and all that because it wasn't poppin' with us until later when things got high tech. My brother was the one who got me into Rap culture. He was old enough to dabble into things if he wanted to. He liked Tupac and all that good rapping music. He'd watch MTV all the time. He pushed me towards Lil Mama because she was a rapper and pushed girl empowerment to the fullest. Of course he would, he's my older brother. But, when I was old enough, I went straight for the guys of the rap industry that weren't famous and were young. Now, I as introduced by this fine Diggy Simmons by an AT&T commercial. I looked him up because the song was just WOAH, and I could give two shits about a phone anyway. I looked on YouTube and realized he wasn't necessarily an artist but was putting out mixtapes like it was second nature. I started listening to all of them and picked it out my favorite mixtape website Datpiff. Soon, I was jet setting like it was my middle name. He didn't necessarily cuss, but it was ok. It was perfect for me and my age because I was fresh in the community of listening to straight rap music. It was golden! Still to this day Big Bad World is one of my favorite songs by him. And them Copy, Paste came out when he was all signed up with a label!!! Oh, my, gosh. Then the album... HELL YEAH I GOT THE ALBUM, preordered that muthafucka!! Lol, all that was when I was 11, now I'm 16! Still on the role with My Girl with Trevor! Yaaaas! Lol
