Flames of Destiny Author Notes Pt. 1
A Silver & Blaze fic
Art by Breta35.
This is the first of a series of posts I want to make about my current wip Sonic fic called The Flames of Destiny. The first chapter is dropping on YouTube possibly within the next few weeks. It would've been sooner, but the current heatwave in Texas and the UK has slowed down myself and my co-writer Breta35 (who is the voice of Blaze).
I'm the main writer, producer/editor and voice of Silver and the narrator. The story is written in a third person limited perspective, with no more than one POV character per scene. POV shifts are indicated with scene breaks.
The Flames of Destiny begins to show us when Silver and Blaze first met, with her arriving in his world (the ruined Iblis future) after an incident occurred with the Sol Emeralds. The general plan is to show them bonding while Blaze tries to figure out how to return to her own world as she helps Silver fight Iblis.
The first few chapters take place in Silver's future, and I want to show what happens to the characters after the events of 06. Whether or not I'm going to rewrite any actual scenes from 06 I'm still unsure of. Part of me considers doing a full 06 rewrite.
I also want to write about the characters post-06. Of course, the bond they formed will have been forgotten, but I want to show that they can still feel that connection, even though the timeline was reset and they technically never met before.
This is fic is generally based on canon, but it also takes place in my larger AU called Sonic Slice! (the exclamation is part of the title). Sonic Slice! is influenced by most canon up until after Unleashed where I do my own thing. (Don't worry, I'll bring Sage in even though Frontiers doesn't happen)
I'll be adjusting canon events whenever convenient for my own story, such as the fact that Knuckles has never seen the completed Master Emerald in his life, for he is a vagabond that's been roaming the planet searching for the shards. As you can imagine, this will affect quite a few story beats from the games, but generally you can assume the same general events occurred until the story states otherwise.
But back to Flames of Destiny. For this first post, I wanted to share some insight into the psychology of my take on Blaze.
It was becoming apparent to Blaze that this place had been melting away her cool exterior, slowly exposing a young, scared princess burdened with responsibility.
This is a line from chapter 2 as Blaze grows disheartened, seeing the ruined future Soleanna. (Ch 1 is set in Silver's POV, and Ch 2 is going to start off in Blaze's) There's a tragic irony to Blaze being overwhelmed by a world of fire.
I think it reflects the weight of her responsibilites and that she probably associates her own flame powers with them. This line I'm especially proud of for the visceral image it produces of a Blaze who is cold as ice being melted away, I can almost imagine an illustration of this.
I don't believe it's stated what the whereabouts of Blaze's parents are, but if the Sol Empire has a princess, then there must have been a king and queen at one point. For this, I'm inspired by Elena of Avalor. Like Elena herself, I see Blaze as a crown princess who was forced to take responsibility over the kingdom after the King and Queen died. As crown princess, she probably doesn't have full say in how to rule, and must consult a royal council of advisors before making any decisions.
There's much more going on with the psychology of Blaze, particularly in regards to her thoughts on Silver, but I want the story to speak for itself in that aspect. Next post I'll probably share some insight on my take on Silver. Until then, feel free to ask any questions you might have!
