I'm going to force you to sit in a room with ticking clocks, yet each one will be just a moment off, so you can never escape the persistent ticking. you'll have nowhere to go, stuck in this room with the constant noise, the constant ticks and clicks, the occasional bell or chime. once you've spent your time there, once you've learned to live with the noise, I'll be sure to remove the clocks and soundproof the room, no more ticks, no more chimes, just silence. oh, but you'll be so used to the clocks, the way their gears turned, the way that one clock was ever so slightly faster than the rest, the silence will become unbearable, you'll miss even the slightest of noise, you'll miss the way the clocks all chimed once midnight came around.
