Fully aware of his father's location and intentions, Supreme Commander Gihren Zabi fires the Solar Ray. The three-second blast wipes out a third of the Federation's forces and vaporizes the Great Degwin and Phoebe, killing Sovereign Degwin and General Revil.

The laser from the Solar Ray is observed by Zeon's 603rd Technical Evaluation Unit, in the midst of engaging an EFSF diversionary force at the moon with their Oggo space pods.

The light is visible from as far away as Earth's equator.

Weary of his son Gihren's descent into fascism and its effect on the Principality, Sovereign Degwin Sodo Zabi secretly contacts the EFF's Commander-in-Chief, Revil, to open the possibility of peace talks.

The sovereign personally launches in his flagship, Great Degwin, to meet with Revil's own flagship, Phoebe. Approaching from Konpei Island, the Federation forces have reached A Baoa Qu's defensive perimeter, the Geldolva line.
